Nah. The absurdity of The Play makes it a clearly the most famous college foosball play evar. Flutie's pass ranks right behind with Kordell's Hail Mary vs. UM. :)

OU rules, yo! :gomer: A local radio station picked up the game broadcast Sat PM. A former colleauge of mine is the head of the local OU alumni group, and he's been interviewed by several papers and TV stations, and had a letter he sent to a local radio station read on the air. OU is more popular around here than App State. :D

Frankly the thought of a trip to the Rose Bowl vs. USC has more appeal to me than the BC$ Chamionship Game, but I'll take it either way.

On another note, The Herd played a Karl Dorrell song done in the harmony of Mrs. Robinson this AM that was awesome. I've got to find a linkage to that.

Todd Graham, or the Tale of the Douchebag
Tue Nov 27, 2007 at 02:42:21 PM
Okay, let me see if I have this straight: the douchebag head of a mid-major college athletic program contacts the douchebag head coach of a rival college football team about quitting that job and coming to coach at his school. The douchebag coach, knowing of his offer from the douchebag Athletic Director, starts discussions with his current employer about a contract extension. Based on these negotiations, the douchebag coach goes to the douchebag AD with his demands, which the douchebag AD meets. The douchebag coach, after saying everything was great at his job, suddenly bolts to join the douchebag AD and trashes the school he's been coaching.

Now we flash forward a year and douchebag coach and douchebag AD and their school venture to the stadium of douchebag coach's former school for a football game. The band of the douchebag coach's former school then mocks this coach in its halftime show, and closes the program by calling the coach a douchebag. The response of the douchebag's school is to file a complaint with the conference since, as douchebag AD says, mocking the coach and calling him a douchebag isn't very sportsmanlike.

That is not true in context of his quick press conference. He never said he wasn't leaving, he said he was focusing on LSU and he didn't want questions until after.

ESPN has been correcting themselves since Herbstreits piece this AM, but it hardly is correct. Watch the conference and judge for yourself. He never says he IS staying, and he never said he was leaving. He said where his focus was and that its about LSU winning the title. ESPN is gonna blow this story. They already blew a nondescript press conference out of proportion.

I'd wait till a paper is signed before scrolling 'Les Miles is stay at LSU' across my tv stations.

Ohio State/LSU in the title game would be my prediction.

LSU will win as well, and I'll have to rip OSU for backing into a title game with a week schedule just like OU did with Jason White for 2 years (and OU got rocked both years). they're both basketball schools, but mizzou has the bigger football fanbase. they both would've sold out their bowl allotment since it's a once in a blue moon thing, and I imagine mizzou would've offered them many more TVs due to StL.

I think it came down to the conf pushing KU b/c of their record and they might think that mizzou wouldn't get up for the game as well as KU due to the loss this weekend.

UM :gomer:s can't get their head coach search right.

Last Friday evening, word filtered back to Ann Arbor: Louisiana State was trying to sign football coach Les Miles to a huge extension.

Miles was widely believed to prefer the Michigan job. He had sent signals through back channels for weeks, and he knew the terms of a pending five-year Michigan offer.

But now he needed to know, for sure, that he was Michigan's man.

As I wrote in Sunday's Free Press, U-M athletic director Bill Martin could not provide that assurance. I now know that was only part of the story.

Martin did not even tell Miles' representatives to hang on and wait until their Sunday or Monday interview.

He didn't tell Miles, or anybody else, anything.

Multiple people at U-M have told the Free Press that Martin was nowhere to be found. Several people tried to reach him, in pretty much every way. They all struck out.

We live in the era of constant communication: cell phones, text messaging, e-mails, BlackBerries, Sidekicks, iPhones. There are 50 ways to find your lover.

Yet nobody could find Bill Martin. He was unreachable.

This is great. Hopefully this will screw up their entire recruiting season.

It already has. They've lost any chance of salvaging a decent class for next season with signing day just two months away. With the losses they will take due to graduation and juniors leaving, UM will likely be second or third tier team in the Big 10+1 next season and in '09. Hart, Henne, Long, Manningham, Crable, and Arrington will all be gone next season. If you look closely @ their roster, they aren't getting the kids from Ohio the past couple of years, which is what they relied on to make them competitive in the past (only ~7 on the current roster, and only 2-3 from > '04 classes). They've had to expand to other areas of the country or go local. Think Bruce to Cooper transition @ The OSU.

Ank, the HC is out, the OC and DC are openly interviewing elsewhere, and the search for a new HC is being handled poorly. The recruiting heads are already talking about recruits wavering on their commits. It's pretty knaive to think this won't have an impact on recruiting for this year and next. The program won't implode, but I would expect a dropoff for a couple of years ala ND. Who knows...maybe they'll find their Porky Weiss. :D

even IF '08 class has the bottom fall out from borderline top 10 to 20+, that's one class, and that won't affect them until '10-'11. if bookended by top 15 classes, then third tier results the next 2 years is as sure a guarantee as picking the '08 & '09 title game.

Why this even came up I don't know.

UofM deserves someone with more of a proven record. Arguably Schiano's greatest asset is his recruiting contacts in NJ and FL. Not as much help coaching MI.

I think he was perhaps just trying to make a point because the state (Guv Corzine) backed out of a $30MM contribution to a RU stadium expansion. They'll get it, but they need to fundraise it instead of getting it from the state. Corzine himself kicked in a the first million. Nice to have a billionaire guv.

I'm not sure Schiano was a serious candidate. Like you mentioned, he may have been trying to get some leverage/visibility for his cause. BUT he may be waiting for the PSU job to become available, which it will soon.

Harsh... but according to this pretty much untrue.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2007/12/how_the_courtship_of_schiano_c.html

I'm not sure Schiano was a serious candidate.

But Martin made it clear the job was Schiano's if he wanted it.

And the paper today, while there is some grumbling, mostly because this is the second December in a row fans had to deal with this, the response from players, recruits, politicians, fans, etc. was that he really means it about sticking around. Teel was quoted as saying that every player is there because of Schiano and he has shown he returned the loyalty. Teel was telling recuits on campus yesterday how cool it was to play for a coach who turned down both Miami and Michigan.

PSU may be another matter. He's a better fit there and if the RU program becomes established enough that Schiano feels he has a fairly lasting legacy in place, then I could see him leaving for a new challenge.

But Schiano has also shown he's no Saban who will immediately jump to the next best offer. He's motivated by more than money.

Or... I liked a post from one RU blogger. He said the move to UofM didn't go through because they wanted Ian Kennedy and two recruit s in the deal. :D

I'm beginning to wonder is Bill Martin (UM AD) is just crazy or crazy like a fox? First the fiasco with him being unreachable last Fri when Miles needed to hear whether he was the man for the job. Martin then defended his unavailability by stating he was following his commitment to not talk to Miles until after the SEC Championship ('taking the high road' is what Martin stated). Then according to RU, UM never asked permission speak to Schiano. :saywhat: Is this dude lame, or what? No wonder UM sports in general are a mess. I was wondering how that works.

He's in NYC for HoF meetings and asks for a meeting with Schiano

He admits it Greg's job if he wants it, though no mention of money other than it would be consistent with the Miami offer ($2.2MM)

He admits he hasn't yet asked for permission to speak with him

RU says he did not (yet) ask permission.

But not one peep from RU officials complaining about tampering.

Why? This is OK? What consitutes tampering?

I think all this coach recruiting stuff is more cloak and dagger than the CIA. The schools and Alums want the AD to get the right man, do whatever it takes, and if they do something improper, we don't want to know about it.

Tampering with what? It's a courtesy to ask permission. College coaching contracts are not exclusive. A coach is free to seek employment at another college at any time.

More like gentlemans agreement than tampering rules per se. I just think it's amusing that he justified one action as playing by the rules, and then took a shortcut with Schiano.

Michigan has stumbled so stupidly in its search for a new football coach, the Wolverines have made Arkansas look smart.

Any idea how hard it is to make Arkansas look smart? It's damn near impossible. But Michigan did it by hanging up a "gone fishing" sign -- literally -- when it should have been locking up LSU coach Les Miles. Michigan then failed in its attempt to lure the football coach from Rutgers, a sentence that brings me such pleasure, I'm not sure I'll be able to write again for at least five minutes.

Now I'm thinking WTF is Sloopy and WTF kind of name is that for a girl?

"I had a conversation with Michigan last week that covered a wide range of topics. I was doing nothing more than helping them with their search for a football coach, just as any loyal alumnus might do. It was nothing more than that," Miles said.

"I'm not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job. I was only assisting them in their search for a coach," he added. "I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It's time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach.

"I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU next season."

Bobby Petrino abruptly resigned his position as coach of the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday and is negotiating an agreement to become the new coach at the University of Arkansas, multiple sources told ESPN.

Petrino and his agent had been talking with the Falcons about his preference to return to the college ranks. The former Louisville coach was looking for an opportunity to break into the Southeastern Conference ranks, and Arkansas was a natural fit.
