UofM v tOSU this weekend!!! :D

Why no smack talk around here? Just because it has no big BCS meaning shouldn't matter. Never used to, back in the day. Winning the Big 10 and a trip to the Roses was always enough.

Go Blue!

I was just never fully on the bandwagon for this Buckeye team. As good as they are, they're still young and at times that has shown.

Big Ten Champions in a rebuilding year. That's pretty darn good. Playing in a major bowl against a top team will only help build this team for next year.

This year was truly unexpected. I figgered 2-3 losses. Weakish Big 10+1 helped, tho. Boecks played poorly the final 3 games of the season and his inexperience showed. :\

Next year this team should be scary good. They'll likely 2-3 underclassmen...Vernon, Jenkins, and prolly one from the O (Robo or Boone). Boom will be a powerful 1-2 punch with Beanie, plus we have 3 stud OLs coming onboard. Circle 11/15 @ Illinois on the calendar for next season. Oh, and 9/13 @ USC.

UM will be in bad shape next season losing Henne, Hart, Long and Crable. I'm also guessing Manningham will be gone as well. Carr will be leaving the cupboard pretty bare for the next coach.

Now, on to the only important football game being played in Cincinnati this weekend: #21 Cincinnati vs. #6 West Virginia

Watch out. ;)

On another note Rutgers became bowl eligible for the third year in a row with their win over Pitt.

The Scarlet Ka-nigguts have had a disappointing season but have played especially gutty the last several games. Teel's been playing with a hurt right thumb all season and he took himself out of the Army and Pitt games. Back up Lovelace has proven he's not a quarterback and its fallen on the defense and Ray Rice to win games.

Still need a win in Louisville but that's not until the 29th so hopefully Teel will benefit from the extra time off.

Worst thing to happen to UofM football was Woody Hayes punching Charlie Bauman at the 78 Gator Bowl.

The rivalry hasn't been the same since. :saywhat:

The 10-year war period was epic. I remember the Freep and Dispatch running ads in each other's paper leading up to The Game. One wonders how that period of the rivalry would play out today. Woody wasn't going to be around much longer after '78 anyway. He spoke @ an honors ceremony (I was one of the few that spelled CAT correctly ;)) my freshman year @ OSU in '84 and he was clearly declining rapidly (he passed 3 years later). :-(

Bo vs. Earle was interesting until Ed "The Lush" Jennings fired Earle in '87. We lost Woody in the spring and Earle in the fall. :-( More recently it's been ebb and flow due to both teams having streaks of success over the past ~20 years, plus Cooper never really got it and tried to diminish The Game (I would, too, if I was 2-10-1 vs. UM).

Last year was epic due to the hype over #1 vs. #2, BC$ Championship berth on the line, and Bo passing the day before The Game. This year the luster was lost with UM losing early and the both teams losing the week before The Game.

In any case, it's still The Game. HBO did a special on it last week and it literally gave me goose bumps watching it. Plus, Bo did pieces of it the day before he passed. Freakin' eerie.

If you can find them...

Quarterback Chad Henne and tailback Mike Hart slipped down a hallway and up a little-used staircase in Crisler Arena that allowed them to walk away from Saturday's 14-3 loss to Ohio State without answering any questions or being asked for any autographs.

tOSU's earned their skins, tress has what, 5 bcs in 6 seasons now? but conf wise, there's the FSU/ACC & Miami/BigLeast comparisonsTressel is the best coach in the conference that has access to elite talent. The only team on paper that should have beaten them this year was UM, and they played that game with Hart and Henne nowhere near 100%, and Henne sucks balls even when he is 200% healthy. That and Lloyd Carr was still coaching.

With the elite programs in the conference being allergic to the spread offense the winner of the conference is always going to end up being the most overrated team that gets trampled by a spread offense team with talent.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3119690

In an attempt to avoid a potential headache at the end of the regular season, the commissioners of the six BCS football conferences have voted to expand the pool of BCS at-large candidates from 14 to 18.

The new rule goes into effect only if there aren't enough teams among the top 14 of the final BCS standings to fill 10 slots in the BCS National Championship Game, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Rose Bowl.

I am sure you are tired of hearing questions about the Texas A&M coaching situation, but I heard Steve Spurrier mentioned as a possible candidate. Do you think the Aggies will actually consider him, and if so, how do you think he would compete against Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech in recruiting?
--Matt, Corpus Christi, Texas

At some point, I'd like to take a visit to whatever planet it is Aggies fans come from. Would A&M "consider" Spurrier? Sure. They've already set their sights on Tommy Tuberville, and Dennis Erickson is apparently on their "Plan B" list. Why not throw Spurrier into the mix as long as we're playing Monopoly?

Now, will Spurrier "consider" the Aggies? Sure ... for about as long as it takes to read this sentence.

The guy specifically chose South Carolina because at this point in his career, he wanted a low-pressure environment where the expectations are manageable. Texas A&M -- where they expect the coach to compete at the same level as Texas, despite an all-time record of 35-73-5 against the 'Horns -- does not fit that description.

honestly, the way things are going, i think both might happen. LSU may not be out yet if they can beat UGA and if both WVU, Kansas and Mizzou lose. Anything is possible.

I disagree with the playoff right now, seems the elimination process is working well at the current time, OSU being the safest since their season is over.

there are only 3 1 loss teams right now with a chance at the title. If Mizzou wins there will be 1 more, but then they have to get through OU and they already lost once to Stoops.

If Kansas win the only 1 loss teams will be OSU and WVU, if WVU can't beat UConn or if Kansas wins today and losses to OU, then it all works out for itself.

The BCS is in a lot better condition than people expected with a season as crazy as it is.

And slow, at least the D line. And they can't tackle.

First time I've seen either team this season and I wasn't hugely impressed.

Mizzou definitely was playing at a higher level and just wanted it more. KU deserves credit because many teams would have just rolled over down 21-0 and unable to get their D off the field.

But having watched WV a lot this year and watching how they dismanteled UConn yesterday, they have my vote for best team in the nation. A Mizzou WV game would be fun.

But if things continue as they've done so far this season Mizzou will lose to OU and WV will play tOSU... and/or Pitt beats WV and we have some truly f'd up title game.

Mizzou definitely was playing at a higher level and just wanted it more. KU deserves credit because many teams would have just rolled over down 21-0 and unable to get their D off the field. Chase Daniel is a gamer. KU's been feasting on an easy schedule, they get credit for dominating most of the pasties they've faced, but they're not elite. Mizzou, however, runs their Southlake Carroll spread to perfection, the D's not quite dominant, but they hung with OU in Norman, they're far more consistent a team than WVU imo.

Gotta agree, but Pitt has played tough in every game. Loses to MSU, Navy (2 OT), Louisville, RU and USF were all close and tough. No kidding. I was shocked at how bad Illinois was last year when they played Rutgers. Didn't help that Illinois literally had no one who could punt. The kid they were using looked like he'd been doing it about a week.

As much as I would like to see a Big East team win the championship, how many SEC teams are better than either WV or tOSU?

I feel like WVU is a perfect example of any given Sunday. They can go out and kill UCONN one week and they can go out and lose to Pitt the next. The schemes and talent to win are there, they just seem to have brain fades at times. Really need to protect the ball.

There ya go! Just happy to be headed to the Roses, as every Big10 team should want to. Feels like you won the championship. :gomer:

UGa and LSU for sure. UTK, UF, Arky, and UK would be competitive games as well, imo. McHeisman and Jones vs. Laurinaitus, Andre Woodson vs. WV's 3-3-5 defense, would be fun.

Early line has the Sooners by 3 and WVU by 28. I don't have a strong feeling either way about Okie/Mizzou, and I've only seen Okie in highlights outside of a few plays of the Tech upset. Previous meeting was @ Okie, and was actually a 14 point game, but OU missed 4 PATs. :saywhat: Okie was also +2 in TOs. Should be interesting to watch. No way Pitt beats WVU unless Pat White breaks a leg.

Daniel threw 4 picks that day too. OU thrives at Gaylord Memorial, but they've been less than dominant away from home this season, they lost to CU & Tech, only beat ISU 17-7 in Ames, and won in Dallas on that fumble on the 2 yard line.

Title game's in SA, neither school has a massive resident alumni base but sooners should have a far easier go of it (Dallas is a lot closer than StL).

DeMarco Murray out for OU, Chase Coffman questionable for MU. No Coffman will hurt MU far more than no Murray hurts OU (Allen Patrick). OU, as always, has size and speed on D to match up with MU's spread, and Mizzou did hang with them for 90% of the game in Norman, but I think it comes down to Bradford executing against MU's D and how well Allen Patrick holds up. The OU oline is solid (why Bradford has the NCAA freshman TD record already) and Bradford has no shortage of blue-chips to throw to, Finley, Gersham, Iglesias, Malcom Kelley.

Here's hoping Bradford chokes and Chase throws for 600 :D

Nutt out at Arky, leaves behind Dick and Johsnon. Sherman in at aggy, set record for number of times "tradition" was uttered in one press conference.

GT, NU, Mich, (LSU?). This offseason might be more interesting than last years.

Probably less risk of disease getting bit by a dog than a 'Bama fan. :gomer:

Daniels actually threw 3 and either a back or backup QB threw the other one. Playing in a neutral site is a bit diff'rent than playing in front of the opponent's fans.

What is it with Southern police departments using attack dogs for crowd control?

Tracking/Chasing a fleeing suspect? Sure.
Entering dangerous situations to search for suspects or weapons? Sure
To intimidate a suspect into submitting? Sure
Drug and weapons sniffing? Sure
Search and rescue? Sure

Almost every major police department has them for that.

But crowd control? You'd think those images from 60s Southern racial tensions would convince them dogs biting black men in a crowd is a bad idea.

I don't know much about public safety, but this seems like a bad idea and perhaps a throwback to a time a few are too unwilling to let go.

Let's just put it this way, I've been to countless Yankees games with 50,000 drunken fans in the middle of the Bronx and I never saw a police dog.

Houston radio reporting that Briles is leaving UH for Baylor. Being a converted HS coach he has strong ties across the state, but the best he can ever hope for is 5th place in the South above Okie St., and Okie St. has T Boone's checkbook going for them these days.

Rice's MOB called Todd Graham a douchebag at halftime  Tulsa lodging complaint w/ C-USA :tony:

They had a great show vs. us this year involving APD squad cars and water pipes and such :D

"Todd Graham's Inferno"
Introduction

A dark wood

Announcer:

The MOB decided it was high time to give Todd Graham a piece of our mind. We searched high and low, asking "Where the hell is Todd Graham?" Lucky for us, we found Dante, wandering in a dark wood, who told us we should be asking: "Where in Hell is Todd Graham?"

The gates of Hell
2nd Circle: Your Mom

Announcer:

We knew he wasn't in Limbo (since he had no spine), so we started our search in the second circle of Hell. We didn't find Todd Graham among the adulterers, but your mom suggested we go lower.

Your mom
4th Circle: Franchione in Hell

Announcer:

We thought we might find Todd Graham in the fourth circle with the greedy and the avaricious, but he was nowhere to be found. However, we did find his shredded Rice contract — leading like breadcrumbs into the inferno — and there, gathering the pieces, was Dennis Franchione.

Dennis Franchione
8th Circle: A River (of poo) Runs Through It

Announcer:

Since he had made all those pretty speeches about how much he loved Rice and would never, ever leave, we were sure to find Todd Graham with the flatterers in the eighth circle, wallowing in donkey dung. But the damned said they'd had enough of his B.S.

Tulsa: Damnation

The Devil in flames

Announcer:

And lo, The MOB descended to the ninth circle of Hell — home of traitors and the Prince of Lies. Yet, of Todd Graham, there still was no sign. Cautiously, we approached Satan to inquire.

Demon:

Todd Graham?! That oaf knows better than to hope for the sweet release of my ninth circle.

Announcer:

We thought him scum, to be sure, but did he deserve an eternity beyond Hell's greatest depths?

Demon:

If you wish to see his fate... come.

Announcer:

A twisted path led down to a door, blackened by flame, inscribed with three frightful words: Welcome. To. Tulsa.

Tulsa
Closing

Announcer:

You know, that reminds me of a joke: A priest, a nun, and a rabbi walk into a bar. Now, I forgot how the rest of it went, but I think in the end Todd Graham is a douchebag.

Ladies and gentlemen, the two-thousand seven Marching Owl Band. Please send all complaints to: your mom at mob dot rice dot E-D-U.

background info for those who dont know, Graham (in his first year on the job) took Rice to its first bowl game in forever last year, then ditched them immediately for Tulsa.

SEC is too good for him, here's a columnist's piece from the Houston paper when it went down last year, just as slimey as Franchione's exit from Tuscaloosa: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/lopez/4468112.html

...

But then came another call Thursday night from an Owls player. The player wanted to know if what he heard was true. It can't be true, can it?

Just Sunday afternoon, Graham stood in front of the team and announced with all the conviction and believability of a pregame speech, and we paraphrase: Don't worry about me. I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to be coaching the Owls until 2010 at least.

Graham also joked in the team meeting that it would take $10 million for him to leave.

...

Graham told his players he would not leave and then he did, never sharing the news with players that he would leave for Tulsa until after it had been reported in print and on television.

...

When offensive coordinator Major Applewhite was fielding job opportunities at Southeastern Conference schools Alabama and LSU, stealing headlines, Graham back-handed his former assistant.

Graham, a former defensive coordinator at Tulsa, told an Austin television station: "We run Rice's offense, not Major Applewhite's offense. That was my offense."

He played athletic director Chris Del Conte like a fool, too, leaving Del Conte searching for ways to put a spin on the program being left in disarray. Recruits are rethinking commitments, and several players recruited by Graham are contemplating transfers.

...

The Owls might not have always had a winning record before Graham, but there always was a sense of family and love for the university from those at the core of the program.

Thanks to Graham flimflamming an entire university community, gaining free rein to gut the football operation when he was hired, the Owls must find not just a coach but people who genuinely care.

Graham drove a stake into the ground and into the heart of the Owls community early, pushing aside a number of longtime and committed Rice athletic department personnel along the way.

He surrounded himself with yes men and youngsters too giddy to be in the college game to express a contrary opinion.
