Here's the answer from a very unlikely source:

Newman-Haas-Lanigan Racing isn't going anywhere. Its deal with Robert Yates was brokered by Ford to help keep the Yates team afloat. Robert has been tempted several times in the past few years to fold his team and focus on building engines. Ford doesn't want to lose one of its key teams and is hoping the engineering and marketing expertise from Champ Car's most successful team can inject new life to the Yates operation.
