Track record surely will fall.

Track record surely will fall. Must be a timing error, those cars are underpowered spec junk and the drivers are just ride buyers. ;)

First practice last year was still a bit wet in spots because of morning T storms but the time dropped to AJs record time by 6 seconds. It will be interesting to see how much it drops as the sessions go, but 2 seconds seems like a fair bet.

I'm a bit surprised. Cleveland requires a lot of straight line speed and hitting the setups right for the east end complex.

I have the whole Elmo clan out here in Cleveland for the weekend. I didn't get as much time at the track as we have the little ones along and they are pretty much toast after the ride. Time to hit the pool.

I guess the numbers speak for themselves, but to the naked eye, straight line speed seemed about the same as previous years. It did seem that the cars were carrying more speed through the tighter turns and looked to be braking later. I may be completely off given that I've been up since 3AM, but that is how it looked.

SB takes pole, followed by Team Aussie .4 back.

Come on boys, please find that .4  ;)

So, .6 or so away from the record? For a car only 3 mos. into it's racing life I see little to be concerned with. I notice more official talk lately about the '01 being oval friendly, too. Tech director Scott Elkins says all it will take is wing changes. Just playing defense or is there a reason to be saying that at this time?

Probably just somebody in the press asked the question.

Missed the record by that much.

Surprised a bit that times didn't drop that much during the weekend. I suppose there is a lot less to play with on the DP01.

.08 off? No biggie. About 11 guys within 1 sec. is big. Tight field, easier to follow closely, anxious to see the in-car shots. Cleveland always provides the best. I wish our announcer guys would just shut up and let us listen for awhile too instead of describing exactly what we are looking at! I don't think listening to a turbo-cossie running up and down through the gears can qualify as "dead air." Any bets on T-1, L-1?:D

Good excuse to watch on RD. You can pick from three in-cars and the only audio is the turbo whine.:D

Looking at qualifying today it looks as if they added several new camera shots. The best is a boom speed shot that follows above the car through 4 and 5. Sweet.

Atlantics did their first standing start at Cleveland last year and it went OK, but with Tracy starting mid pack who knows.
