Update: Three more people have died, raising the death toll to seven, after dragster hits crowd at Selmer car show

Three more people have died, raising the death toll to seven, after a drag-racing car lost control and careened into a crowd of spectators state officials said Sunday.

A drag-racing vehicle lost control during a parade and spun into a crowd of bystanders Saturday night, killing seven adults and injuring up to 15 people, authorities said.

Investigators were trying to determine what caused the vehicle to careen into the crowd at the Cars for Kids charity event in Selmer, located about 80 miles east of Memphis.

Witness Scott Henley said the vehicle started burning off its tires, then began to fishtail and slammed into a light pole before spinning around into the audience.:( :(

Holy ****! What on earth were they thinking???

Nobody was obviously, including the police who were there.

As someone who's spent some time at the drag strip, there's no way I'd have ever been standing anywhere near that guardrail.

Geezus! :shakehead

Holy ****! What on earth were they thinking??? Absolutely, what a shame and a waste. Anyone that's been around burnouts should know better.

no guardrail where he hit them. Yahoo sez that the other drivers would hit the brakes before the end of the guardrail, this guy didn't.

That was stupid. Why would anybody with a so-called competition license attempt something like that? :flame:

That was stupid. Why would anybody with a so-called competition license attempt something like that? :flame: Ya, stupid was the cause of this one. Why the hell would you launch a funny car on a public road even with guard rails, much less without guard rails. Any change in grip or road surface will pitch the thing sideways.

AUSTRALIAN drag racer Troy Critchley, who was behind the wheel of a high-powered Corvette involved in a killer crash at a Tennessee charity event, has negotiated a deal that will keep him out of an American jail.
