INDY 500 gets *** kicked by CHARLOTTE 600! Gomers....BURN Tony at the Stake NOW!

http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2007/05/nascar-beats-indy.html

Can the relatively low rating for the Indy 500 be entirely blamed on the rain? Not necessarily. While the Indianapolis 500 has drawn less than a 4.5 rating only twice (the rain-soaked 2004 and 2007 editions), the fact is that ratings for the Indy 500 have been on a steady decline over the past decade. This year will be only the fourth time that the Indy 500 has drawn less than a 5.0 rating since at least 1992, and all four occurrences have been in this decade (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007). Thanks in large part to the mainstream attention given Danica Patrick, the 500 saw significant ratings increases in 2005 and 2006, but the interest surrounding Patrick (who has yet to win an IRL race), and any renewed interest in the race in general -- may be waning.

Get a jump on next years 500, SELL YOUr TIX NOW or just burn them. What's next for the IRL gimmick-machine? Openly gay participants? Co-ed man/woman teams? First transsexual in the 500? Clowns in crapwagons? Ludacris sings "Back Home Again In Indiana"? Indy 500 need eye catcher...

I vote for all of the above and more!

How about Dog the Bounty Hunter tracking down and busting Salt Walther on the yard-O-bricks? Lindsey Lohan driving the pace car! Put Paris Hilton in a 5th Vision car!

Man I sure miss the old days when Aerosmith sang the National Anthem.

I think we had at least 2 of those things this year alone.

but, but, but, you didn't get the message?

the weather played a huge part, if it had been a warm sunny day the ratings woulda been through the roof. Three ladies, all the former champions, there was bumping preceding the big race I mean come on.:tony: :D

George ready to bid higher for CART

"I committed to the Indy Racing League 10 years ago, not 10 months ago," George said. "I am very committed to making sure open-wheel racing succeeds, and the IRL is on a very firm foundation going forward. We've got the right path to be successful, and we will be. We're not going to convince everybody that we have the best intentions for open-wheel racing at heart. There will always be those (fans) who won't be dragged along without kicking and screaming. But our actions will speak for themselves, and in two or three years that will be obvious to any reasonable person."

**** off and die you miserable piece of ****. :flame:

USA Today reported a 4.6 for mIndy, but didn't mention anything about the broadcast or the 600. Unfortunately Rudy Martzke retired last year, and he used to do a decent job of reporting on the TV sports scene and ratings (specifically the ailing mIndy ratings).

(not defending mIndy's ratings @ all...I'd rather believe the 4.1 #s.)

So next year when they go from a rain delayed 4.1 to a sunny 4.4 we will get to hear everyone at the Jimmy Kite Kool-Aid Club gush about how ratings are "soaring" and the "mystique" of Indy is back. . . . just wait :shakehead

I firmly believe that Gomerville must decrease so open wheel can increase. Tragically, this news is the only thing like progress in the ever shrinking world of American open wheel racing. What the sport needs now is for Kevin and Gerry put together a solid series with a solid, as in gimmick-free, strategy for growth. I wish I had brilliant ideas to offer, but I don't. All I can do is go to the races

USA Today gets an A for effort. Jayski quotes Street & Smith, who reports that Nielsen's finals were a 4.5 / 10 share for the 600, which is an 11% drop over last year.

I find it sad that it has come to a point that there is actually energy spent compairing the Indy 500 to a mid season NASCAR race.

The gomers forget, NASCAR gets them numbers week in and week out. FTG gets them once a year. The Milwaukee snorefest will be back to normal. My guess? 0.7 (It was rainy in the midwest and the NASCAR race got rained out). Maybe even a 1.0.
