Qual lap to beat, 1:06.886, by, well, SB.

So far, other frenchie, 1:09.992 Pr1

Love to see the new car smash the qual time.

well, the practice 1 time was met by seabass

I suspect someone will break the lap record, I just wonder if it will happen in Q1 or Q2

Looks like Power and Pagenaud are quick too..... Good for Walker.

1h12m Rookie American driver Graham Rahal sits on pit lane. The son of former champion Bobby Rahal has had a series of mechanical and electrical issues, resulting in the least number of practice laps of anyone.

It sure seems like NHL is having more gremlins then the other teams.

No real surprises in the first session though I thought Clarke would look better this year. Perhaps just lack of seat time.

So the provisional pole is actually 3 tenths slower.

Seabass says that the Panoz might not be as fast on street courses.

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS: I don't know. I think, like I always kind of said, I think that the Panoz is going to be quicker on road courses. On street courses, with the bumpiness and the fact that the car is a little more ride-height sensitive than the Lola, I think it's going to probably be a little difficult to get to that level of performance. But we'll have to see. It's still very early in the season with the new car. So it's definitely up there. It's got a different character than the Lola to drive. I personally don't like it quite as much yet, but hopefully we can get it there.

Interesting, Gommendy in 7th in front of Rahal, Bruno and Wilson. And I thought Gommendy was supposed to be an example of everything that is wrong with Champ Car this year. ;) :gomer:

I'm more interested in seeing how they run in traffic --- ability to pass would be far more beneficial than a tenth or two of outright speed
