NEW YORK (AP) - Don Cherry is bringing his loud mouth and louder outfits south of the border.

The outspoken former coach of the Boston Bruins, who has been a fixture on CBC's "Hockey Night In Canada' telecasts for more than 25 years, will make his U.S. broadcasting debut as part of NBC's Stanley Cup playoff telecasts, the network announced Tuesday.

"A lot of people have written that what I say up here I would never get away with it down in the States," said Cherry, the Bruins' coach from the 1974-75 season until the 1978-79 campaign. "I'll just go on and do what I have to do.

"In the States, they wanted me to go on one time in Pittsburgh. Jaromir Jagr, it was when he had long hair and he was with Mario Lemieux and I said, 'There's Mario and his daughter.' It didn't go over too good. That was my last time in the States."

The NHL playoffs have been cancelled for the 2nd straight year in light of the fact that the Toronto Maple Laughs didn't make it.

I think its amazing that a 3rd string goalie kept the Leafs out of the playoffs.

I'd be more worried about him going off on a political rant than doing something as silly as calling European players pansies. Cherry was very moved last night during Coach's Corner, talking about the deaths of Canadian forces in Afghanistan. He and Ron McClean even got into it one time debating the Iraq war. Not sure how NBC would handle a situation like that.

Love Don Cherry, he's the fighting, insane Murray Walker of the NHL broadcasters

Not sure how NBC would handle a situation like that. I am. If he steps on the toes of those who can apply enough pressure he'll disappear. The coporations that own the main stream media haven't an iota of human integrity, it's only about business to them.
