Chevy teams to run new engine (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/57984)
"With the motor we've been running, the block part of it was actually designed in 1955. We've made a few modifications to it, but it would still bolt into a 1955 Chevy Bel Air," said Mark Cronquist, head engine builder for Joe Gibbs Racing.Boo, bring back the flatheads.... By gawd, if my side valve Chebby cain't get 'er done then it don't need doin'....

The R07 engine was designed to be more durable than the current SB2 unit, while using more modern parts and a different plumbing system. Ooooo, different plumbing, good job guys, does that bring us up to 1963 technology yet...? :gomer:

As the saying goes, you just can't make this stuff up. :D

Too bad.

I'd bet every manufacturer involved would prefer to be running a DOHC V8 in a modern chassis with bodywork that actually looks like their product.

Something more like this, perhaps, but without the flared fenders and exteme aero:

Seriously, I think NAPCAR fans would be quite pleased if there was a rational alternative to that widely hated toad referred to as the Car Of Tomorrow.

Sure. '55 DKW "Audi"

Plenty of room in there. And you can ditch the FWD in fine NASCRAP tradition, too!

"looks like truck, drives like a truck!" - heard during the martinsville NASCAR broadcast.

NASCAr nostalgia is only slighty worse than the nostalgia for front engined roadsters.
