Woke up this morning at 8:00AM sharp to the sound of the Mazda Atlantics hitting the track for their first practice.

Life is good. Wonder if I have any $ left? ;)

Alex Figge brings out the first red flag of the season....

Paul Tracy on provisional pole, Simon Pagenaud second, Sebastian third. T & S only shows 16 drivers qualified. It doesn't look like Bruno made an attempt. ???

Oh, and tough day for the Jr. Rahole.

Bruno stuffed in the tires earlier in the day when his throttle stuck.

Bruno went out around minute 9 and then pitted immediately. He did not post a time. I guess the car wasn't fully fixed:(

Seems Matt Halliday only turned two timed laps.

I don't get it.

New cars and a new track yet only one driver turns the maximum of 15 laps in qualifying.

Why? Are the number of tires per weekend that tight that getting in six more laps during qualifying will be a problem?

I'd say it's far more likely that he had a problem with the car.

Sometimes it just sucks to be Bruno.

Bruno Junqueira's day ended on his out lap when series rookie Trisian Gommendy ran into the back of Bruno's Sonny's Bar-B-Q DP01 breaking the rear wing and the right rear suspension.

"I can't believe he hit me," commented the talented Brazilian. "I was moving over to let him by and he just rammed me ending the day. We had a top 4 car with a chance at a pole. I am really sorry for Dale and guys we were very strong."

If you have money left you're not doing Vegas right. ;)

They were uncrating a new engine for Halliday's car in the paddock after quals.

I didn't see Bruno's car in the paddock at all. No idea what they did with it or if they can fix it for tomorrow.

Pretty good crowd for a Friday in the reserved grandstands. Overall I was real impressed with the facility. The teams gotta be loving having an air conditioned paddock.

Those two-seaters are LOUD.

I wonder if they'll have surge in Easter weekend bookings for hotels next year after the race?

Good choice, Kalkhoven. Is "Gommendy" French for "Hattori"?
