We know what really matters to fans -- because you told us. We surveyed more than 80,000 fans in SportsNation, and you told us what you want from your favorite team. And then you told us how well your favorite franchise repays you for all the love and money you devote to it.

The results? The Buffalo Sabres rank No. 1 among 122 pro sports teams based on what they give back to fans who invest their time and money in the organization.

I'd just like to say: Out of those 122 teams, only one of them have I actually purchased a full season's ticket in the past. And they rank (drum roll) 122!

Lions Free, I am Lions Free.

The #1 ranking for the Sabres is what happens when you have an owner that actually has a clue about how to run a business, and isn't a specialist on corporate fraud and/or driving star players out of town. Kudos to Mr. Golisano for coming in and righting the sinking Sabres ship. His only potential miscue with the slug logo has turned into a marketing gold mine for the team, as Sabres merchandise is the hottest thing in town.

One final thing...it says a lot about the Buffalo area and the Buffalo hockey community that so many former Sabres choose to live here long after their playing days are over. Someone should have them give Willis McGahee a talking too.

Hockey players like ice. Foosball players from FL don't. ;)

Kudos to Buffalo.

Thanks. :)

I'm not sure if it was the climate the foosball player was referring to

Coming from Miami, I was used to partying, going out, just having something to do every night. Restaurants, whatever. Going to Buffalo, it was like hitting a brick wall. Like, 'Damn!' Can't go out, can't do nothing. There's an Applebee's, a TGI Friday's, and they just got a Dave & Busters. They got that, and I'm like, 'What the?' And, you know, the women ... "

So we did just get a D&B, but if he would take a moment to stop playing video games and impregnating women, he would have found plenty of dining and nightlife options.

baltimore vs. buffalo is a no brainer. c'mon, "plenty of dining and nightlife options" compared to Miami? compared to Baltimore/DC?

congrats on the #1 ranking though, none of my clubs are top 25, 'stros are closest at 30 :irked:

All my faves suck more....everyone > 76 (CBJs). :D

It's funny looking @ the archives to see how much recent performance affects the ratings. For example, the Tiggers were mired towards the bottom until this year's tally. They should add a rolling average to the results.

Damn straight and proud of it. :)

Too bad he went to a team who decided its gameplan was to give the ball to one guy and yell 'go get em Barry!' :irked:

I won't argue that Baltimore and Miami are bigger cities and known for their nightlife. But if I (someone who's nowhere near the top of the social/economic sphere) know where the hot bars and restaurants are, it shouldn't be that hard for a professional athlete to find, you know? And besides, if he wasn't happy with B-lo's options, then the casinos and ballet are right across the bridge.

Just noticed that with the NHL rankings. I'd be curious as to how much of a difference it would have made (both overall, and within each sport?)

I think however that the survey was sabotaged by bitter Lions fans. There's no way IMO that the stadium is 89 out of 122 - I actually had the pleasure of attending a game in the new stadium the year before last and thought it was incredible.

My gripe isn't with the result of the survey, but the awkwardness of the question. The Buffalo Sabres are not a city. :)

And as I said earlier in the thread, I think it says a lot about the town and the people that so many former players choose to stay after their playing careers are over.

That's because with their Buffalo salaries the only other retirement they could afford would be Detroit :gomer: :p

Why dignify this post with a response? What the hell, I like busting the chops of anyone from teh suck that is Cleveburg....

As noted in previous posts, I 'cheer' (more like follow) one team from each sport, with the exception of the NHL, where I follow the Phlyers and CBJs. I also follow Tribe, but I enjoy any failures that are Cleveland (The Drive, The Fumble, The Mesa, The Modell...). :gomer:

As Sam Wyche once said, "You don't live in Cleveland!" And I thank God for that daily. :D

Too bad minor league teams were not included. Here everybody loves .25 hotdog night at the local AAA baseball games.
