If Speedy Dan sucks so bad, then he should be blown away by his teammate, right?

he will be. doornbos has talent and experience, success in everything he has raced. dan clarke went from mediocre brit f3 season to mediocre champ car season.

Glad to see Speedy Dan return. He has the speed, just needs to learn a little patience.

Dan Clarke wears cooler hats.

That Clarke improved markedly over time last year and is returning to a team with which he's familiar (I'm assuming that most of the personnel stayed, despite the ownership changes) suggests to me that Bobby Doorknobs isn't going to blow Clarke away right off the bat. He might not have the Verstappen Suck, but he's not the second coming of Senna (or even Bourdais) either.

Clarke got better as the season went on, and he was fun to watch. I think it is one good and one might be good. We'll see.

That's my take too... he had flashes of brilliance in between gaffes, he could very well put it all together and start winning races.

Wasn't there supposed to be a sponsorship announcement to go with this? I vaguely remember mention of such in the initial CCWS teleconference notification e-mail.

At this point in the game, isn't any driver announcements good?

Wasn't there supposed to be a sponsorship announcement to go with this? I vaguely remember mention of such in the initial CCWS teleconference notification e-mail.

Snippets from the teleconference:

ROBERT DOORNBOS: I'll be a Red Bull supported driver like Allmendinger was supposed to be and Jani is. I don't think there's a lot of Red Bull livery on the car. I think the most important thing is overall, my helmet, it's a bit like A.J. had as well last year. But I'm convinced that the team did a mega job in facing the car and we'll just have to wait and fee for Vegas how it looks.

PAUL STODDART: It (sponsorship announcement) will be at the Vegas event and you'll see quite a bit of sponsorship, some relating to the drivers obviously and some relating to the team.

DAN CLARKE: I can add to that actually, I have some new sponsors. I have a continued relationship with Ticketmaster and the Australian Pink Floyd Show that I had on the car last year and also continue to work with the Imagine Charity based in Liverpool, and also we have a Mirage Casino on board for the first race in Vegas.

So it's nice that we are building some relationships with the Speedy Dan branding and hope to continue some of those for many years.

KEITH WIGGINS: It's fair to say that you'll see a number of good sponsors coming on, both from the hard work that Paul has done; I think he almost was being too ‑‑ very reserved in that, but I think you'll see a number of sponsors which I know they want to announce in Vegas which will be good, solid sponsors on to Robert's car, and you know, Chaz who represents Dan has developed a brand initiative with Dan where you'll see some serious blue Chip companies. Some of them maybe for one race and some longer term, but you'll see some pretty good names to add to his last which they are pretty active in building which he has already mentioned some of those sponsors. But you'll see more come on as well as you will from Paul's side. So it's not going to be a team wandering around with blank sides as you're intimating.

ROBERT DOORNBOS: I'll have to give some extra attention to my sponsors in Vegas then. (Laughter).

Saying that Doorknobs is a talent who had great results at every level is quite a stretch. He's no Chanoch Nissany but he got as far as he did in Europe for the same reason he got a Champ Car drive, he brings lots of cash.

Easy has a point, but overall, I agree with Wabbit. 2 more confirmed drivers.

Though I must say the prospect that Speedy Dan has yet to test a DP01 is not terribly reassuring for Vegas.

Weak attack.

Nelson's Champ Car career is on the upswing, but it was impossible to have a downswing more or less. Clarke v. Nelson = coin flip IMO. Put them on the same team and picking a winner would be tough.

On topic, I think both driver announcements are good.

The weak attack was by SOG on Nelson. Quite undeservedly. Or is "that tool Nelson" some sort of compliment?

Good for Speedy Dan.

They were on the same team last year. Nelson was 4th in points and Dan was 12th.

I don't like the guy, and IMHO, he doesn't deserve to be racing a car "for a living." Got a problem with that?

Now that would appear to be a valid point. :D

What I meant was next year though. I think hypothetically w/the new car and Clarke's year of experience (in which he showed some serious speed) that Clarke could out perform Nelson.

Easy
03-29-07, 04:19 PM
Nelson "Senna" Phillipe is not a poster here, he is/was a Champ Car World Series driver and isn't here therefore open to Sean's ire, Spicoli's love and Corkski's hateball?

I agree with greenie, Clarke tends to crash much less and perform much better in his second year in a series.
