Eddie Griffin OK after wrecking Ferrari Enzo at SoCal race track
The Associated Press
03/26/2007 08:45:15 PM PDT

IRWINDALE, Calif.- Eddie Griffin crashed a rare Ferrari Enzo worth $1.5 million into a concrete barrier Monday, destroying the car but escaping without injuries. The comedian was practicing for a charity race to promote his upcoming film, "Redline," when he drove too fast around a curve at the Irwindale Speedway and smashed into a divide. Video footage showed the red sports car screeching before it ricocheted off the barrier with heavy damage to its front.

"Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can't drive," Griffin, referring to one his past films, told reporters after the accident. The film's publicist, Wendy Zocks, said Griffin was "doing OK." "He walked away completely unscratched, but probably a little shaken," Zocks said. The Enzo, valued at around $1.5 million, was owned by the film's executive producer, Daniel Sadek, whose exotic car collection was featured in the movie. Sadek said the car was beyond repair and that he had "mixed feelings" about the wreck.

"I'm glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed," Sadek said. "I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there's people dying everyday. A lot of worse things are happening in the world."

Only 400 Ferrari Enzos were ever produced, all between 2002 and 2004.
The car was the subject of a high-profile court trial last year after a Swedish businessman totaled a red Enzo in a 162 mph crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Griffin's credits include the comedies "Undercover Brother," "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" and its sequel, "Date Movie" and "Norbit."

Time to invoke the words of Saint Senna.. "You drive like a f*in idiot. Youre not a racing driver. Youre a f*in idiot!".

I caught a clip of this on the Today Show this AM. I had no idea it was an Enzo, tho. I'm sure it'll appear on the 'tube shortly.

I wonder how many of the 400 produced are actually left now? Apparently if you are rich enough to afford one you are also too dumb to drive it. :gomer:

Miracle escape from Enzo smash
Thursday, 23 February 2006

A rare Ferrari Enzo was severed in half in a horror 240 km/h-plus smash that caused mayhem on California’s Pacific Coast Highway. The owner of the Enzo, which was reportedly seen dicing a McLaren Mercedes SLR, suffered only minor wounds. A rare Ferrari Enzo was severed in half in a horror 240 km/h-plus smash that caused mayhem on California’s Pacific Coast Highway. The owner of the Enzo, which was reportedly seen dicing a McLaren Mercedes SLR, suffered only minor wounds.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies estimate the car was going faster than 240 km/h, perhaps topping 320 km/h, when it began swerving on the highway in the early hours of Tuesday. The Enzo went 6m up an embankment, smashed into an electricity pole and left a 400-m trail of shattered debris in its wake. The engine came to a rest in the middle of the road, and the passenger compartment continued spinning another 50m down the shoulder. "It sounded like a huge lumber truck or something lost its load and started scraping down the highway," a witness told the Malibu Times. "Stuff was falling everywhere."

Sheriff's investigators identified the owner as Stefan Ericksson, 44, who emerged from the wreck - with a broken lip!

Looks like he had the wheel turned hard right and locked the front brakes. I doubt it but he might have stood a chance if he got off the brakes early enough and mash the gas.

Classic example of braking in the turn, not before it. Wanker mistake. Celebrity or not wouldn't you school him on the basics before letting autocross in your 1.5M car?

Pretty good shunt, but it does look fixable. Sweep it up and send it back to Italia.

Based on his comments in the interview, he doesnt seem to express alot of remorse, throwing some off-handed comment about not knowing how to drive....
Like Andrew said - I aint gonna let any old fool drive my $1.5mil car unless I know when and where he went to racing school, and who his driver coach was.... unless the movie company who owns it just doesnt give a care about what happens to one of their props !:D

And that is what "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity" Waltrip refers to as a "tight" race car, where it wants to go into the wall nose first !

aluminum?  the tub is made from it, but everything you see in the vids is carbon fibre getting ripped apart at the seams.

i can loan you some money so you can buy a clue:gomer:

It's totaled. The only repair would be to split the chassis at the firewall, and rebuild the whole thing in front of the engine.

I believe the IRL rulebook says that in a "break-out year" an incident such as this automatically certifies a driver for Indy 500 and can be presented to the stewards as "practical experience" in lieu of the Indy 500 Rookie Test.

The incident needs to have the following characteristics to qualify:
1) Must demonstrate "Running out of talent"
2) Heavy impact with a wall
3) Destruction of expensive equipment
4) Potential for spectator injury
5) Inspire head shaking and/or laughter
6) Attract media attention

Now, technically Eddie was attempting a right turn (which the IRL looks down on), but he did it on an oval infield (which FTG approves of) so I think Eddie is in!

My apologies for not jerking it to the ferrari catalog on a nightly basis. How foolish of me to assume there could be something common between an Enzo and the plebian 360, 612, and 599.

I'll leave you be so you can return to peddling OTC pink sheets over the phone.

It's pretty hard to feel sorry for the Enzo owner, it's the same idiot that destroyed a perfectly good Carrera GT (also heard it was two) making the Redline movie.

Yeah, I'm sure the Enzo owner is enjoying the publicity right now.

It was funny how many people sent the link to me at work today and said "hey, isn't that the racing you do?" My response is, well, yeah, and then I get "I thought you said cars cant crash in autocross?"

for all the airtime this is getting on every single news outlet, this may turn out to be a blessing for the producer (ad time would have cost a helluva lot more at this point)

On top of that, he can write the whole thing off on his taxes!

Don't think so. That's a pretty big whallop on the driver's side of the car (left hand drive right?) to do on purpose.

Plus he had the wheels pointed right and was on the brakes the whole way. If he's trying to do it on purpose, then why risk avoiding the accident?

Just wanker with too much money.
