I have a pair of Vornado fans that my mother bought in 1947. I still run them every summer, every day, all summer long. The grills don't meet current safety rules, you could stick you whole hand in there but they are still running after 62 years. DO. NOT. DO. IT. I've spent numerous hours over the past weekend trying to get that thing to work as well as my Android phone to no avail. It's not a bad piece of hardware....it's the version of Froyo they put on the thing that sucks. The UI stinks, the app store is abysmal...so bad it makes AT&T look golden. :saywhat: :shakehead :irked: However, on the good side, the girls like playing Angry Birds on it. :gomer:

OK. I finally got the ROM to install....and this thing now rocks. The original UI was pathetic (putting it mildly). The problem I ran into was PeaZip not extracting all the files from the ROM for some reason. Installed the latest version of WinZip and Voila!. :saywhat: Unfortunately it doesn't have Swype, so the keyboard is a PITA. Otherwise it's a great doc reader, game player, short e-mail, and book reader device.

I've fried several birds with no issues following the standard practices...put bird in pot, fill with water to cover bird, remove bird from pot, mark water level, drain water and wipe dry, fill with oil to the marked level, heat oil and SLOWLY lower bird into the oil. I just did this a few weeks ago and had no flame issues. One piece I do agree on with Alton is to cover the LP hose to the fryer with heavy duty aluminum foil.

Once, when I was doing prep work too late the night before Thanksgiving, I took my mark on the side of the pot with the bird still in the water. No flames fortunately but what a mess on the pool deck when it overflowed. Thankfully the rig was sitting on a couple layers of cardboard. Bird still came out all right.

I agree Alton's method is over the top. The one from woot looks pretty sturdy but I would prefer short legs, keeping the pot closer to the ground.
