So, to counteract the time it takes to reinstall everything into a new system, the fun is I start looking out for new racing games.

I picked up GT Racing 2 for the PC. A year old, its based on the FIA GT championship. It looks like the same guys who programmed the F1 Challenge game for EA.

Seems to be good, am wondering if I should try the 24 hour race

Anyone have it? or any other recommendations for newer PC racing games?

It is based off of F1C, but it is not by the same crew. For various reasons I haven't been able to play in a while, but rFactor is a lot of fun. I don't know what the community has done for it in a few months, but I think it is a lot better than the GTR series.

if you like gtr2, you might try gt legends, it uses the same game engine as gtr2 but it models historic saloon cars on current tracks. plays and looks similar to gtr2 but the cars are a lot easier to throw around.

rfactor is pretty good too, once again it uses the same engine as the other two so it looks and feels similar, but it was made with modding in mind so there are tons of mods for it. my favorites include the v8 supercars, the formula bmw's and the brilliant f1-79 mod.

I have all three. All addicting. Have to say that rFactor kicks ass. Toyota Atlantics, Formula BMW, GP2. Awesome. I have even loaded 2CV's and Beetles.

I have also downloaded the F1-79 mod but I cannot get the sound to work...

rFactor does not use the same engine as the GTR series. It is developed by the original SCGT and F1 Series team and is step or two above the GTR engine build. It is like saying the Euro Focus and the NA Focus are built on the same frame. The tyre model in rFactor is very sweet.

you sure, i think they all use the gmotor2 engine. although the gtr series might use an earlier version. there is some discussion of it here.

I don't get much of a chance to play on the PC but for me the $NZ60 I spent on rFactor was the best money I have ever spent on a game.

As mentioned the V8s, BMWs and F1 mods are awesome. I really love the wee rFactor Trainers too. :)

Have fun,

Rusty.

Sweet. I'm in the middle of building a new gaming box myself. I've been seeing so many good looking sims come out over the last 2 years I couldn't take it and decided to build again. I obviously have my eye on rFactor and GTR2, as well as netKar Pro (http://www.netkar-pro.com/index.htm). I also saw something at Blackhole Motorsports about http://www.iracing.com/, but don't see any demos or anything else on their site.

Hopefully by this weekend I'll be able to crash cars in games other than GPL and Live for Speed. I may even decide to step up to a high-speed connection this summer after my current dial-up contract expires to get an online racing fix

Got my new machine up and screamin'. Downloaded rfactor (haven't bought it yet so I'm still in demo mode... wanna make sure everything works on the new system), and it's pretty fuggin' sweet with the graphics maxed out. However, I can't figure out how to watch the replays... is it something that's locked away in the full version?

Help a brutha out...

That was my first thought, but that ain't hittin' on nuttin'. Mebbe I accidentally mapped over it while blowing thru the setup... I'll give it a shot.

Danke.
