My NASCAR inoculation updated for 2007 in only about fifteen seconds of TV time. :)

I'm really surprised Montoya stayed out of trouble.

I thought he had a pretty decent run. He did a good job of not overdriving an ill-handling car while a lot of other drivers were putting theirs in the wall. He kept his nose clean and finished in the top 20 on the lead lap - not a bad debut for an open-wheel guy. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him in victory lane before the end of the season.

The oil fire started after the start/finish line, preventinting the ultimate NASCAR finish - skidding, upside down, and in flames.

After a really rough weekend, I flipped on the end of the race. God, I needed that nap!

Not a 20. Its the 07 car, driven by Clint Boyer.

I was thinking the same thing...but I think Tony Stewart might take exception... :D

I'm sure the IRL will try to beat it. Maybe they can have their car upside down, in the air, and on fire.

Its 07 and painted that way because his sponsor is Jack Daniels.. The font matches the label. They couldn't just get the number 7 cause robbie owns it.

To be honest though, if they didn't have the lucky dog rule, he would have finished probably 2 laps down. Those late cautions gave him his laps back.

So now we have gone from 3 wide pack racing to the complete opposite where, for a long stretch in the middle of the race, it was single file hug the bottom racing. I assume they'll tweak the rules again for next year to ensure that there is more pack racing again?

the 07 not to be confused with the 7 of Robby Gordon.

The announcers never touched on it, but there had to have been some problem on a pit stop because he was running around 26-27th on the lead lap going into the next to last round of stops. Then all of a sudden on the restart he was 37th and a lap down.

EDIT: http://www.chipganassiracing.com/news/race-weekend-news.cfm?cid=2530

Montoya drafted into the top 20 for the first time on lap 164. It was three-wide racing for several laps before the caution flag waved again. The team called for a routine stop, but as Montoya was trying to get around the No. 5 car, he overshot the pit. He put the car in reverse, and after the pit stop was completed, found the Texaco/Havoline Dodge was stuck between gears. As the team pushed him behind the wall, the car popped into fourth gear and Montoya returned to the track one lap down to the leaders for the restart on lap 179. The team only had to wait six laps before another wreck brought out the yellow and earned NASCAR’s free pass back onto the lead lap.

It's amazing how out of touch the announcers are, completely forgetting their first broadcast 6 years ago and Dale Earnhardt, the irony of Kevin winning in the 29 6 years to the day after the crash. It was the first sentence in today's LA Times.

Maybe I'm dense, but... What the heck is ironic about Harvik winning six years later? That's just happenstance.

I'm wondering if the announcers were given an STFU memo about the Dale situation. How many more ways can you beat that dead horse?

I noticed that too about the race. I was makin up food at the start, so I asked if they did the whole lap 3 silence bit with people holding up 3 fingers.... The guys said they didn't do it.

Maybe they finally moved on. I for one am happy they didn't say much about it. Nice small tributes to Parsons and Hamilton in the pre-race.

As a Moore fan, I remember him every halloween, we chat about it on the forum, but I'd really hate it if every CC race from then on constantly talked about it.

I think 29 is the 'new' 3, right?

Harvick got the ride in the number 29 after the Daytoner wreck killed Ironhead..

iirc that is...I could be wrong....

No idea what is so ironic about 6 years though....

I was pulling for Mark Martin at the end though....

Mark Martin winning the 500 in a Chevy. Now that would be ironic.

The ratings for this year's 500 were down 10% from last year. Fox is claiming its because the race was "too short."

Translation: there weren't enough wrecks to extend the race into primetime and generate the ratings bump.

Naturally. And I was the one who was actually impressed that they were able to have green flag pit stops.... Seems like forever since they had those.

Had to love NASCAB inventing the rule son the fly again. No caution on the final lap incident? Puhleeze. :shakehead Oh, and that was a stunning display of blocking by Bush early in the race. :saywhat: They might as well call it NASCA 'cus that shizzle ain't racin'.

I'm tempted to go to the newspapers and look for the quotes, but the main theme was ...upside down flaming wrecks, spins, crashes and general mayhem. Hey, whatever sells! Survival of the luckiest. My guess is Martin (ARMY car) had "The Call" but was unable to deliver. He said as much.

He shoots, he scores!

Reminds me of a Mark Martin joke from back then....Do you know why Mark Martin's car doesn't need any air in the tires? Because it's sponsored by Viagra. :gomer:
