The price tag for such a new event is eye popping. Ecclestone explained it will take a governmental entity to pay by the following analogy.
Do you think [the] American government is going to put the money up? An entrepreneur is not going to take the risk to spend $200 million if ... he's not going to get his money back."

Bernie said: "Why should we race in America for half the fee we get in other parts of the world?"

$200 million? Bernie's greed knows no bounds and on Tony George will be willing to pay him enough to keep a GP in the U.S.

News flash Bernie, at $200 million there aren't many governments raising their hands either, especially since the required Tilke track will add that much again before the first event is ever run.

certain governments will pay the $200m (and never expect to make a buck) because the F1 race draws attention to that country for one weekend in the year.

Malaysia, Bahrian, China & Turkey are obvious examples. Those governemnts want to show the world that they're big international players.

Add in abu dhabi, Russia, India as likely future GP desinations.

It doesn't cost $200m to put on an F1 race, Bernie should have told SI what percentage cut he gets from the races.:gomer:

If you are starting from zero, no track or venue in place, that is how much countries are spending these days and more.
