Ford said they were interested in stepping up the pace car program, but doesn't the pace car program predate Ford running it a few years back. IRRC the lady drivers have been doing it for years and for quite a while it had all types of cars (Toyota, Honda, Ford, MB, other) in the lineup.

Is it possible that the Minardi is not replacing the pace car program, just that it was going to cut into want Ford wanted to do with the pace cars?

Yes, I heard "track time" was a Ford concern. Not worth worrying about. It was just an excuse they felt they needed. It's OK, Nissan will be glad to fill in.

IIRC the pace car program we've had to this point was started years ago by PPG. No idea what's really going on now. I hope the lady drivers aren't all unemployed now.

Glad I got my ride at Vegas a few years ago. :D

I blame the onboard starters. Ford was concerned about the lack of yellow flags. :)

(Someone should've reminded them PT was still in the series.) ;)

Was thinking the same thing about the lady drivers. AND about TravelGuy getting his ride at Laguna a few years back.

Perhaps they've gotten Sherwin Williams to step up? Sherwin Williams Pace Car Team?

The pace car ladies are great people, and the rides themselves are just awesome! Hope they continue under a different program.

I know that those ladies will land on their feet. Great drivers every one.

Stacy gave me a ride around Portland last year in a Factory Five Cobra Daytona coupe (and not just ANY FFCoupe, either. I found out A LOT about the car after the fact).

Pattie gave me the "fast tour" of San Jose in the GT 500 Canary Fund Pace Car 6 weeks later...

I loved that program, but mebbe not as much as Dave99...:D

the word I got is that the cars went back to ford, were stripped of the powertrains and due to be crushed. That was 2 months ago. I have a friend who inquired on buying a "roller" as a demo car for her company...No word on whether they got it or not.

With that, Ford wouldn't take the $$$ from someone like us; It would require a "larger entity" to even inquire about procuring one of those cars, and even then it's not always successful!

We've got 7 Mustangs of different varieties and our Focus sitting in the shop. The GT is no longer around, but I'm pretty sure that was a loaner from Vasser anyhow. Don't think any of these are scheduled to be demolished -- they'll probably end up sitting in the back half of the warehouse with the other thirty or so retirees.

Yep. I've been back there. WTF are they doing with those? I mean, is that the collateral for KKs loan? :gomer:

srsly - you think they would sell any of them? would you axe em?

Believe me, if I understood it, I'd be the first person to explain it to you guys, and if I thought I'd get a decent answer to the question, I'd ask. I would think that auctioning them off would be a great way to earn some cash and maybe get a little public exposure, but instead we just park them under covers and forget about them. I don't really get it, but I guess getting that isn't part of my job description, so it's no skin off my back.

Did you happen to notice we've got a boat back there as well? What the hell?? Would love to know who that one belongs to, and how long it's been back there. Maybe we can use it as our new pace car!

I don't exactly have a job title yet -- as of now I'm still only a contractor, so we're still working on some of that stuff. If you watch the American version of "The Office," I suppose you could liken my position to that of Dwight K. Schrute -- Assistant (to the) Technical Director. Basically, I'm working for Elkins and Cotman, doing whatever little side projects need to be done at the moment. I'm handling the electronics stuff like crash boxes and telemetry since we don't have a full-time electronics guy anymore, I do some programming, and I do some CAD work and assist with simulations. Other than that, I am generally here to brighten the office with my sparkling personality and give our pseudo-Colts fans a token non-pseudo Bears fan to pick on.

The "warehouse" I speak of is the back half of our office space in Park 100 in lovely snow-covered Indianapolis -- and no, I can't do you a solid and get you in to see the toys. I don't have all the privileges the cool kids have ... at least not yet. :D

Thanks. When you come to Houston don't worry about snow!! 70's and sun today. In fact bring your mower and I will let you cut my lawn before you head back to snow covered Indy.

Hrmmm ... mixed feelings here. I actually like the snow -- we got a snow day yesterday and were sent home early.

Living in an apartment, I kind of miss having a lawn to mow. Don't take that as an acceptance of your offer, but I'll hopefully have my own grass to mow sometime this summer.

And when I come to Houston ... well, it won't quite be the same anymore. Just found out last week that the paternal unit is moving away from League City to ... Canton, Ohio? Huh? Oh well. I suppose I can visit the Hall of Fame now, but I'm gonna miss coming to Texas to visit and playing golf regardless of the time of year. I will also miss coming down in March and seeing you Texans wearing ski masks and parkas in 50-degree weather. :p

If you'll be at the race, PM me beforehand and you can look me up at the track. I meant to get together with some of you guys last year at some functions that f00boy was setting up, but I never made it out because I kind of felt obligated to hang out with my parents in my spare time. Evidently, I won't have that restriction this year.
