I've been looking at this pic very carefully and compared it to other Formulas and as far as I can surmise, this colling could only be for two chassis's. It looks very much like a GP2 car but Elan's is not listed has the GP2 manufacturer. The only other chassis I can see this for is the super Oval version of the DP01. It does have wing-lets attached which is f1ish in style.

Very odd indeed!

It also appears to have some sort of exhaust ahead of the wing flick up that comes off the back of the sidepod.

Which one would assume is for natural aspiration based on the close proximity to the engine.

Lots of questions, few answers. Sidepods shape and intake are very A1GP, but I see a lot of EARL as well. The way the sidepod decreases width is very much like the current cars. I'm interested to say the least.

I originally thought it was A1gp but on close examination i'm not convinced, the air intake spine is completely different on this colling. there is no dorsal fin along its length as there is on the A1 cars.

Nice work, Spicoli !

My first thought when I saw the pic of all of them in formation on the outside of the building was the scene from "Apocolyse Now" as the choppers fly down the beach playing the "Ride of the Valkyries" at full blast....

That song would be most appropriate as these bad boys head out on the track (with suitable tires, no less) and having Valkyries blaring with the volume up to 11 would be epic....

and oh yeah, leave 'em all painted black.....;)

"death from above".... (or the side, as it would be)

Compare those bad boys, unpainted and fresh out of the autoclave, to the pig they are runnin' in the Gomerville 500 :tony: with their fart car\ bee stinger motors and tell me what ya think ?

How about some Euro ladder series that doesn't require mid race refueling in a hot pit? Does the Renault series need a new chassis perchance?

There is also a diffuser at the rear of the bodywork, the sidepods don't look wide enough for a ground effects car, it has trendy F1 like chimneys to extract air after the radiators, and that pointy high nose could poke somebody's eye out.

It does indeed, but that opens some interesting questions. If it is an IRL chassis, is Panoz/Elan/whatever its called going to have real IRL customers? Are they actually going to do something to become compettitive again in IRL? If so, did CC know this was Panoz's plan all along and how does Anton feel about this?

Of course, if it isn't an IRL sled...;) Put it this way, its not a "European variation.";)

Dunno, but to the naked eye, it looks, how to put this, too sophisticated for a feeder series. Logical guess says IRL sled, though I'd be surprised if it is new.

It's not. It was posted with the other pictures. It also referred to it as a yet to be announced prototype for a European based series.

2. Why would the gentleman who posted the others also post a 'shop?

3. The thread in question has now been edited entirely (no pics on said thread). Why?

It's too bad the pic has been withdrawn for comparison but I'm starting to believe it was a GP2 prototype design for 2008. Here's the 2007 Gp2 prototype unveiled by Dallara:

http://www.gp2series.com/Images/600_2007%20car%20Ricard_tcm2-10093.jpg

Notice the similarities to the Elan cowling. There are F1 like wing-lets and exhaust pipes on the side pods just like on the elan cowling image. There is no fuel port on the right side also. But I believe GP2 doesn't refuel during races anyways which would account for this.

The only real noticeable difference between the two is that the Dallara has a dorsal fin design behind the air intake port whereas the Elan design has a moulded/rounded design.

I think it is a prototype for a 2008 GP2 bid.

OK, that settles it. And apex is right. The prototype is very similar in design to the current chassis.

I understand its just one prototype, but I'm a bit surprised they've gone to the trouble of building one for '08. Then again, for F1's premier feeder series, you can't be too careful.

Anyway, back to this thread's real purpose, the backtracking from the TF crowd is hilarious. They simply cannot admit the truth: They've been pwn3d.

You mean Elan would build a car in the US for GP2 or is that just where the grunt work is being done? (or is that the European division? I don't know how the co. is structured.) They're entering a competing design in hopes of beating out Dallara? Can't even imagine a Renault powered Euro series coming to the US for a car. I will say this (again), just because a car is NA with a box doesn't mean it's ugly. Even the GP Masters machine looks to be all race car. I'm easy, I guess. PT looks pretty good in a red fire suit and beard.

winglets on a oval chassis would be of no advantage, this has to be a GP2 or the new A1 car, or new masterseries chassis, it's definatly a road course chassis not a oval chassis, but i bet someone got into hot water over this photo
