Scalextric vs Carrera vs Ninco???

I don't want to modify them, just straight of the box basement entertainment.

What's a dad to do?

I bought a 1/32 Ninco set for Trevor a few xmas ago. Its been great and has taken a lot of abuse. I've added additional track section and Trev has lived out his track designer fantasies.

As for cars, Carerra seem to be the best made, most detailed, most durable.

Scaletrix are on the other end of the scale, but are more affordable.

I have a good source for slot stuff nearby but I also use this http://www.radtrax.net/ for spare parts and stuff. They changed owners recently but it seems to be close to what it was.

Make sure you have lots of extra pickup and tires around. Pointless and frustrating to have to make a trip for such little stuff. And routinely pull the cars apart to lub and clean out doghair, lint, rubber, etc. or you'll burn up motors pretty quickly.

How could you not buy this:

Because the rear wing supports (both Lola & Reynard) are mounted ON, not BEHIND, the engine cowling. :yuck:

In contrast, the SCX versions (Visteon & Herdez Lolas) got the design right but are impossible to find...

Trevor has the Herdez. The rear wing snapped off pretty quickly (wadda expect? Stupid Mario) and no matter how I have tried to reattach it I can't get it to stay on. We just run it "trimmed out".;)

Oh, and will the Fly/Ninco/SCX/Carrera/etc cars all run on the other's track? From my HO (that's HO scale, not Ho's!) experience, I assume that the tracks themselves are not interchangable, but what about the cars?

FWIW - I was in Herb's Hobbies in Doylestown this AM. I never really took notice until I saw this thread, but they seem to have a nice selection.

That's irrelevant, because all my Scalextric slot car boxes say "this product is not suitable for children under 3 years old." I assume other manufacturers are no less. Monogram's even say "not recommended for children under 8 years old."

When other manufacturers are routinely producing stuff that looks good on the shelf without your ever putting them on a track (like the ones I buy, since I simply don't have the space to install a track anywhere and there is no local public facility), the toy-like quality of Ninco doesn't wash.

Michael: I believe the cars should be interchangable with all tracks of matching scale.
