Jos Verstappen has admitted he has his sights set on a berth in the Champ Car World Series for 2007 and while he refused to exactly who he has been in talks with, he insists it his plan to be on the grid for the first round next April.

Rumours about Verstappen eyeing a seat in the United States surfaced after his acrimonious split with Jan Lammers in the A1 Grand Prix just days before the season opener at his home round of Zandvoort.

Since then, Verstappen has been linked to a drive with ex-Minardi boss and former employer Paul Stoddart, who is thought to be on the verge of a deal to buy either the race winning HVM-CTE squad or set-up his own team, signalling the rebirth of the infamous Italian team that left Formula One in 2005.

Verstappen though declined to comment on who exactly he has been in contact with, but admitted manager Huub Rothengatter has been in talks with several teams about possibly extending the Dutch contingent in the series, which has this season been represented by Charles Zwolsman and Nicky Pastorelli.

Two words: Assen - Oschersleben Jos the Boss would be a big draw

The Champ Car World Series is to host two races in Europe next year, one the road circuits of Assen in Holland and Oschersleben in Germany. The news will be confirmed as soon as the necessary contractual work is completed. The Champ Car series wants to take advantage of the fanbase that exists in Europe, thanks in part ot the success in the series of European racers such as Sebastien Bourdais and Justin Wilson. There are also a string of younger Europeans trying to make the grade in the series, including Dan Clarke, Jan Heylen, Charles Zwolsman and Katherine Legge.

According to stories in the US, the Assen race will be on September 23 with Oschersleben a week later.

Champ Car has not visited Europe since 2003 when there were races at Brands Hatch and on the Lausitzring oval.

Assen is best known for its motorcycle races but in the last 12 months major investment has been made in the track in an effort to increase the racing potential for cars. The original Assen circuit was an 18-mile road course on which the Dutch TT took place. After 1955 the track was shortened and in recent years has been 2.8 miles in length. The recent work, which cost around $100m, is a reprofiled version of the 1955 track with all the modern safety norms.

SU has it, Zig...PT and The Boss side-by-side into one, it's "Geezer Chicken!" Who backs off first? Look for a spate of DNFs and a possible war between Canada and The Netherlands. It's happened before! (sort of):D

Maybe CCWS teams would be more interested in that kid winning in Jos' A1GP seat instead of an F1 wash-up who asks for a million dollar salary.

On the other hand, it would make for good TV. Jos vs PT will be fun. And, Jos will take his helmet off!

And, Jos will take his helmet off!

He will also punch and not just slap fight like most of PT's opponents this year.
