With the way SeaBass was talking this weekend, there could definitely be an open seat for Rahal v2.0.

"And it's tough to come back over all that's been done in the last three years, but there's so much we could say that I'm just going to leave it as these three, I guess."

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but he doesn't sound like a guy who GAF if he comes back or not.

Nelsonmania?

I think I read somewhere that he isn't committed anywhere yet. I imagine his stock has gone up after this past weekend.

According to this story Seabass is under contract with NH next year.

We're going to start charging $19.95 to read Spiccy's stuff.

I think almost everyone here would drive for the reported $200k/yr offered to AJ.

Not me. My life is worth more than 200K a year.

I honestly do not think that 200K is the real #. It was probably more like 2 mill over three years plus bonuses for wins.

IMO if you've won even just one race, you deserve a million dollar contract. That contract may be spread over two years but at least you know that that one win just made you a millionaire (if you weren't already from daddy's money).
200K a year to a guy who won 4 races...hell, they could have just spit on him and said "there's your money, now drive". No wonder he went to NASCAR.

I don't either. That seems way out of whack and disproportionate. Winning drivers in CCWS aren't getting paid that low, and AJ was free to look at other teams.

Driving for $200K, I meant it somewhat toungue-in-cheek. Obviously many people would have to way those risks. I'm just saying a lot of people would jump at an opportunity like that. It wouldn't take $1.5M. :)

The way I read it, AJ was paid 200K for THIS year driving for Forsythe. Considering he never won a race going to the team and only drove for them for part of the season, that makes sense.

He was offered a lot more than that for a future contract, but it did not match the amount the NASCAR team was offering him, so he bolted.

I had the same thought! If only for the publicity value of having him in the series, even if only for a year. I always thought his driving style was far better suited to Champ Car than F1 anyway. O.K., now for the JV haters . . . . . (ducks:eek:)

Nah, GF doesn't want to compete with RB/'CAB bucks OR the "Dutch Mega Team.":D I think a series owner ought to hire Tomas Enge and go to Brno next summer and draw people to a PROPER track! (he's from around there, isn't he?)

soal patch buddy rice got the drive GF dumped AJ

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/champcar/33628/

Despite being groomed for a Champ Car ride, Buddy Rice never got the opportunity to race in that series after winning the Toyota Atlantic title.

But, next month in Mexico City, he'll finally get a shot.

SPEED has learned that the 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner has been tabbed by Gerry Forsythe to replace A.J. Allmendinger in the Champ Car season finale Nov. 12 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Allmendinger announced earlier this week he was leaving Champ Car for NASCAR next year and Forsythe decided to look for the future.

"We've got to think about '07 and this will be a good audition for Buddy," said Forsythe, who called Allmendinger on Thursday morning to inform the five-time winner his services were no longer required.
