Read it and weep, gents:

http://dispatch.com/autos/autos.php?story=dispatch/2006/10/11/20061011-C6-04.html

Several racing industry sources said yesterday that the IRL will race there the weekend of July 22. The official announcement could come today, one source said, but it is pending the signing of the contract between the IRL and Mid-Ohio.

Neither officials of Mid-Ohio nor of the IRL could be reached for comment last night.

I got ya both beat. I live less than a mile from the Strand (as the crow flies) on belle isle.

And Zig has us all beat - he basically lives at IMS. And if he can deal with it, I think we'll all be alright. ;)

Piggybacked on the ALMS weekend. The ALMS was always strong enough to warrant their own weekend.

Obviously the IRL is not.

I usually do the ALMS Sunday at Mid-Ohio, but I won’t be there next year because of the IRL. It will be the first time in over a decade that I haven’t attended at least one event at Mid-Ohio, too bad.

What is really sad is that I’ve never done any other ALMS race other than Mid-Ohio and was looking forward to adding the weekend with Champ Car at Road America as a second one.

Ms. Gajoch keeps making it easier and easier for me to not spend money at Mid-Ohio.

announcer voice: You've just learned that the IRL is racing at Mid-Ohio. What are you going to do?

my voice: I'm going to Lawrenceburg!

Seals the deal for me. We did all three days ALMS and probably would have again.

I'll be expecting the same phone calls as I got from Nazareth:

"Why Mr. Elmo, we see you didn't renew your tickets? Would you like to renew them now?"

Mr. Elmo - "Uh, no - not a fan of the IRL, blah, blah" (I'll be polite)

"We've heard that a lot"

Mr. Elmo - "I bet you have"

"Have a nice day"

:shakehead

And PS - We know what Nazareth looks like NOW.

I've heard that Rahal will somehow be involved in the promotion of this deal. It seems that rather than hand out cold, hard, cash, TG is giving team owners race promotion deals. AGR got St. Pete, Penske got Belle Isle, TG has Indy, Rahal is getting Mid-Ohio, and others have deals on the table as well.

August 5th? Just 2 weeks before the Cup race? Why in the world would ISC or Nascar want to possibly jeapordize the attendance of one of their big money makers for the IRL? The cheapest cup seat is still more than the most expensive seat for an IRL race. What would they gain? What will they further gain when another IRL race is scheduled less than a 100 miles to the east a couple weeks after the the same cup race?

I have a feeling ISC may tell the IRL to enjoy running on Mid-Ohio and the rat infested island in Detroit. Michigan is probably gone much like Fontana.

CBS is doing the ALMS race. Interesting conundrum; would ABC share Wheeler Production's facilities (cameras etc.)?

THEY HAVEN'T FIGGERED OUT ITS A SUPPORT RACE TO ALMS YET.

But they're the IRL. They're above making a time buy to be on network TV. ;)

Is this another sign that NASCAR is taking over the broadcast partner's time, forcing the IRL to third tier importance levels, right behind competitive dominoes and eating contests?

By Curt Cavin

Indy cars will return to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, in 2007, Indy Racing League officials confirmed today.

The race will be July 22, giving the series 15 confirmed races for next season. Races at Michigan International Speedway (Aug. 5) and Infineon Raceway (Aug. 26) are expected to be added.
Mid-Ohio, a 13-turn, 2.258-mile road course, was an Indy-car staple from 1983 to 2003. CART first raced there in 1980.

Haven't read all 42 but would someone please let me know if anything will be done to fill in the "Joey Hand Ramp" on the back straight prior to the event? I'd hate to think such an obvious safety hazzard, that Joey was so kind to point out for everyone, would be ignored!

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dr. Jerry Punch will call play-by-play, Rusty Wallace will provide analysis and Brent Musburger will host pre-race coverage when ESPN and ABC return to NASCAR coverage in 2007.

Starting next year, ESPN and ABC will have comprehensive coverage featuring telecasts of the final 17 NASCAR Nextel Cup races, including the 10-race "Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup" championship on ABC. Additionally, ESPN2 will televise every race in the NASCAR Busch Series.
