Rubbing is racing in NASCAR land, Hendrick's has locked Brian out of all team meetings with his impending move to a Toyota team, thus declaring him a non factor for the team.

With this being the case I support Vickers 100%, Jeff a couple weeks a go and Johnson today, are for all intents and purposes not teammates and he was racing fo rthe win.

Too bad for Junior, I don't think Vickers woulda spun the 8 fo rthe win.

The irony is that in the wake of Jeff G. saying in recent weeks that Brian's on-track behavior wasn't befitting that of a teammate, that he's screwing with Jeff's chances at the title, etc., Jimmie was one of the loudest voices to the contrary, almost bending over backwards to publically defend Brian. You could sense how much Jimmie was biting his tongue to refute his earlier words in the post-race interview...

Since Vickers announced he was going to Toyota, Hendrick has for all intents and purposes kicked him out of the cool kids club. How can you expect a driver to still drive your car and be effective if you dont let him into the post-practice/race team debriefs?

The mom unit has Victory Lane on in the other room, and Jimmy Spencer said that NASCAR should take the win away from Vickers, since you "dont wreck out two heroes."

It also looks like the fans are showing their klassiness by littering the frontstretch with debris.

But Mr. Excitement still (one minute ago) shook his hand with a big, seemingly genuine grin...

Let's see him try to tell Brian to his face NASCAR should take the win away from him... ;)

If thats the way that his team and his teammates are treating him, then by all means I support his move at the end. I'd probably intentionally wreck my teammates left and right if I was him.

I wonder if he'll still have a ride come next week?

Other than that, how was The Big One and did it take out any Chase competitors?

It definitely wasn't one of those Dale Earnhardt or Bristol crash the guy to win moves. Everybody was blocking and then Vickers hit Johnson. A Racing incident for sure, that's why Jr wasn't even upset.

Wiping out Jr. for his first win, then going to a foreign owned Toyota team next season. He sure is doing a good job of fitting himself for a black hat in the eyes of NASCAR fans.

Y'all are giving Vickers WAYYYYYY too much credit here. Sorry, but he's nowhere near near good enough to have pulled that off on purpose. I mean, it worked out fine in my view, but he won b/c he genuinely screwed up.

I figured Jr wasn't upset because a bad finish at what is supposed to be "his" race gives him a free pass to suck the rest of the season.

It looked like one of them thar racin deals ta me. Too bad for Vickers, not his fault but he might as well be a foreign road race driver, driving for Toyoter and wearin the murican flag as underwear. I'm sure Nascars classiest will give him a warm reception next week. Anyway, mess with junior and the front stretch gets showered with chicken buckets, coolers and cans, you can count on it.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Lowe's Motor Speedway is beefing up security for driver Brian Vickers after angry race fans called the track to complain that Vickers wrecked Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson on the last lap at Talladega.
The Nextel Cup Series is scheduled to race Saturday night at Lowe's, and track owner Bruton Smith felt the need to offer Vickers assistance because of the flood of phone calls the track received Monday.

"We want to make sure Brian has an uninterrupted weekend here and that he is able focus on his driving duties," Smith said. "We will offer security escorts in and out of the speedway and anywhere he feels he needs our assistance."

He's expected to be poorly received at Lowe's, the track that shares a sponsor with Johnson and sits in the shadows of Earnhardt's hometown of Kannapolis, N.C.

I'd pay money to hear some of those calls.

I guess that threats were also called into WindBag on Sunday night.:shakehead

Then again, the Earnhardt fans were also the ones that flooded Sterling Marlin with hate mail after the death of Big Poppa Earnhardt.

You would probably need some sort of "Redneckese" translator.

I saw that as I bumped pass a replay of VL yesterday.

Whatever credibility FOX coverage (and NASCAR by extension) had went completely out the window for me on that one. I was looking for that bald WWE announcer from years back hyperventilating about whether there would be a death match on the podium between Lil E, Vickers and Bill France. Instead they have Jimmy Spencer doing it for them.

Vickers screwed up. Probably has little if anything to do with leaving the team. He got the win. Chase looks a lot different as a result. Fewer drivers now with a chance to win. There's your analysis. But that won't fill 120 hours of programming this week. And that doesn't make for good "sports entertainment" (a term interestingly coined by Vince McMahon in the early 90s and now used to describe all of sport).

Wouldn't ESPN have coined that term (albeit transposing the words) a decade or so earlier? Especially with the way they're selling things like poker and spelling bees as something worth watching?

I'm in the camp that believes he didn't know what the hell he was doing, but it worked and he WON! I think he just learned something valuable to take to Toyota.

Vickers just lucked into that race win. if he was an inch further back, Johnson would not have spun out. if he was an inch further forward, then he would spun out with johnson.

if vickers was too far back, then johnson would not be able to compete with Jr for the race win.

the two other big ones took out the drivers who could have challenged Jr with 5 laps to go. (gordon, Burton, Stewart)

NASCAr's popularity certainly has peaked. Talladega is down to 4.6 overnight TV rating.

Similar calls were on Wind Tunnell's voice mail segment. Some of the funniest stuff I've ever heard on that show. Most were from redneck old women...hilarious. I was going to save it for future laughs but forgot. Damn!
