This to me is the biggest story out of Alabama this weekend...not The Punk's debut, Dinger's top 5 or when the Big One hits in the next 3-odd hours.

Met Charlie/last saw Gary at the '04 Mansfield CTS race. Wanted to do an interview but never got around to it. Still plan on modeling this truck someday...

Jerry was a race car driver
22 years old
Had too many cold beers one night
And wrapped himself around a telephone pole.

Bet he couldn't carry The Punk's jock in the bed of that shiny new truck he crashed, but unfortunately he'll never get a chance to even try. RIP.

Your the writer, write a story, make it happen and oh, don't foget the Punk's debut or Dinger's top 5, sounds like sour grapes for someone so distraut.

No intended sour grapes from me. Sorry if my choice of words got everyone worked up in the wrong way. Both of the open wheel guys did remarkably well, and those are certainly not unimportant stories (I'd include all the rancor about Mark Martin's impending career move announcement in there too).

But they've also been documented to death already. Even Vickers' last lap move which only happened 40-odd minutes ago. Meanwhile no mention of Charlie whatsoever on the NBC telecast, nothing yet on nascar.com, etc., etc.

I wasn't planning on writing something...but now I guess I have to.

OK. can someone explain the headgear on this guy? I have no f'in clue who he is other than apparently a lower ranking NASCAR series guy who has done pretty well. I looked at his hat and said to myself - "I know that logo!"

But is he sponsored by Arapahoe Basin ski area in Colorado?:saywhat:

Now in all my years of seeing NAStards, I have come to believe that the ballcap was sacred sponsor territory. so what gives on this one???

No way a small ski area in Colorado with 5 (really 4) lifts would sponsor some low level stick car seies in 'Bama.....:shakehead

The Bradberrys have historically (i.e., when Gary ran his own car in Cup) had NO sponsorship whatsoever (and would make the shows in said bare-bones car). Not even at the local mom-and-pop store level (at least not to the point of warranting visibility on the cars). So I'd say there was nobody interested in paying Charlie for said sacred sponsor territory, and he was just wearing whatever cap he dragged out of his closet. Pretty safe to say they didn't have fancy personal endorsement deals from a sunglass manufacturer either...

No sponser logo's on that racesuit, just the series badges.
