Set to have a monopoly of the Formula 1 tire supply next year, Bridgestone is considering the possibility of following its own footsteps and introduce an "option", red-sidewalled tire in F1, as it's already done in Champ Car.

I think it is a smart move. It adds something. I also heard some rumors of push to pass. They are copying Champcar. What's next, Panoz DP01 cars ;)

I remember a time during the Goodyear/Firestone wars in F1 when both manufacturers brought their preferred race compound and a softer option tire. Goodyear even brought a harder "C" compound (known as "woodies") to races. The cool thing was there were no regs so teams would sometime put the A compound on the rear and the B compound on the fronts trying to sort out understeer problems.

Looking at the practice and qualifying results back then was fascinating. Who's on what compound? Who's got what rebuilder doing their Cosworth?
