Who didn't see this coming?

I like the way the FIA incorporated stupidity into that design.

They'll watch CC in 07 and if the DP01 indeed works, I think they go the same way and move the aero back to the undertray. I still would prefer if they were going to lock one thing down, it would be aero instead of the engine.

No doubt, but I didn't see this coming (from the same article):

Moves were also made to make progress on plans for re-usable energy devices that have been penciled in for 2009.

The teams agreed for the FIA to prepare draft regulations for these systems, with the manufacturers to prepare draft regulations for the specific devices to use the waste heat and exhaust gases.

Hybrid engines in F1? How do you use wate heat?

Question: Any chance that FIA officials might seriously look at how Champ Car's Panoz chassis affects the amount of passing?
Varsha: I have no doubt the FIA will be watching the DP01 development. Racers are racers. You might also note the rumor that the Champ Car tire option using softer, red-painted Bridgestones is under study by F1 as well.

One way is to capture spent heat from brakes to route back into some aspect of generation.

I would think an regenerative braking would be way more efficient than that, maybe not though.

I am just not familiar with any system that uses 'waste heat', what would that be? 'Waste gases' sounds like a turbo to me. Details anyone?

Given enough time, Max might (re)discover the turbocharger. :gomer:

Everytime I read where Max is talking about cutting the cost of F1 racing I then read where he is going to force the teams to spend $ millions changing to a completely new engine (2.4L V8), a new aero spec or some yet to be announced heat energy recovery system to give the cars what, more power? It's racing Max, it doesn't need a deeper purpose and if you want to actually save money, leave the technical specs alone for more than 10 minutes.
