Malkin comes out from visiting salmon rushdie and signs with the Pen-gu-ins. (they're practically like chickens)

In the meantime, Nicky Z., who was basically freed from the clutches of the Russkies ala Fedorov, is threatening to go back to Russia to play rather than sign with the CBJs. The locals are growing restless with Douger Mac.

The Sabres still haven't signed Miller, but they do have the priciest backup in the league in Biron ready and waiting to go. Dumont let his pride get in the way, choosing not to accept Buffalo's post-arbitration deal. Connolly still has no idea what planet he's on after the vicious hit against Ottawa in Round 2.

Only a month till the season starts!

I hope purchasing an Admirals jersey is not in order, that new logo is hideous. I should be able to take in some home games financing and time permitting. Bill Wirtz is the suck and the main reason Milwaukee does not have an NHL franchise and never will.

And Windsor has finally gotten rid of their own version of Harold Ballard, Bill Wirtz etc.

Steve Riolo is gone! (and methinks he was quietly told to sell the team after the hazing and fighting incident from last year- which happened on the team bus he happened to be on.)

The new ownership group includes Bob Boughner and Warren Rychel. Hopefully they won't treat it like their personal plaything the way Riolo did.

And here I thought the madness would end with Mad Mike's departure from the Isles:

Rick DiPietro re-signed with the New York Islanders on Tuesday, agreeing to a record 15-year deal that will pay the No. 1 goalie $67.5 million.

I'll second that. Here's how the deal works, according to ESPN:

As long as DiPietro wants to play for the Islanders, he will be paid for the duration of the deal barring either a trade to another NHL team or his retirement.

• If he's traded, his contract goes with him as it was negotiated and becomes the responsibility of the team that acquires him (there currently is no provision for sharing contracts between teams).

• If he formally retires, providing the league with the appropriate papers to that effect, the contract ends and does not count against the Islanders' salary cap.

The guy will be 40 by the time this deal runs out. How many goalies make it to 40?

racermike
09-12-06, 03:07 PM
Holy crap!

15 years?

The guy is gonna be freaking 40 YEARS OLD, IF, he is still playing that long. Someone has been passing around crack brownies in the Isle's head office apparently. (maybe by DiPietro and agent).

If not, kudos to he and his agent, for pulling off the heist of the century so far. Thats a HUGE chunk of the salary cap for that team.

devilmaster
09-12-06, 03:10 PM
idiotic. :shakehead

What if DiPietro has a career ending injury? He doesn't have to retire, he just has to keep trying to come back - and he gets paid?

I'm still not convinced that he is one of the best goalies in the league....

The more I read and hear about this deal, the more i'm pissed off.

And now that I've said that ^

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=177298

Bob Clarke has tendered an offer to group 2 restricted free agent centre Ryan Kesler.

Kesler was working on a deal for 2 years at about 875,000. Kesler is 22 years old, got 10 goals and 23 points last year in 82 games. Last year's salary was 564,000.

Clarke offers 1.9 million a season!!!! http://www.sportsinferno.com/forums/images/smilies/banghead.gif

Everyone lost an entire season because teams threw the salary grid waaaay out of line. 1 year removed from the lockout - and stupidity reigns! Effin morons.

" Too bad for them. I'm just playing by the rules that are there. To be honest, I'm surprised more teams aren't doing it.”

Wait until next year when you try and resign your young-uns d***wad.

There's a major difference between UFA signings and RFA signings, Bob. You may have to inflate a UFA's price because its open bidding on him - you need to beat the other teams bidding on him also.

When its announced you've signed someone to an RFA offer sheet, no one can outbid you. You've signed him to a guaranteed 1 year contract - and the team that owns him has a right to match. In this case, Kesler will play for Vancouver or Philly at 1.9 mil. Vancouver will decide who Kesler plays for.

Bob had alot of wiggle room between 825,000 (the expected salary of kesler this year) and 1.9 mill. If the media can figure out that Vancouver has cap space to cover the 1.9 mill, then Clarke had that info also. In fact, its being reported that before he signed the offer sheet, Clarke had tried to trade for Kesler and was denied.

Clarke's a moron - and I think a few GM's are going to screw him come next off-season.
