45 min Paul Tracy, who had physical confrontations with French drivers Tagliani and Bourdais at the last two races, waved to the fans in the Turn 10 hairpin as they booed loudly here in predominantly-French Quebec. :p

Anyone know what AJ's "major mechanical" problem is?

Anyone know what AJ's "major mechanical" problem is?

The straw on the ginormous Red Bull water bottle broke, thereby rendering him unable to product place the sponsor in the post-qualifying interview? ;)

And Steve Johnson is saying he should have "three more 2-car teams signed up for next season by the end of this weekend", NOT counting any more Atlantic teams that might move up or Stoddert's likely sounding effort. Hmmm, one pit per team? Last chance qualifiers? :D

And since Montreal doesn't want CC back next year the Canadian paper La Presse is saying maybe Quebec City or Mont Tremblant? Johnson still wants to be in Canada so he says...they're looking! Sure would like a road course but "city" seems to fit the bill these days. And AR1 says ALMS is likely IN at Long Beach because GA and the France's are related and after the flap in Phoenix, they're OUT! Excellent move if it happens. Road America too, I hope! Let's see; best support series, new car, big race in May, teaming with ALMS, new venues, maybe 6 more cars, Cris improving, Rahal looking to drive, and more. I'm OK with all that.

Be interesting to see ALMS in conjunction with Champ Car at Long Beach. Never seen sports cars in person before, hope it happens.

And those are Steve Johnson quotes to the media ON AR1, not from other media sources. Johnson says CC is looking for another Canadian race to replace Montreal and also is in negotiations with ALMS concerning LB. I think the reasons are obvious and make good sense. Now, if you really want to see CASCAR, GA and Busch in Montreal, I guess you'll get your wish too. The world awaits a lap time comparison between DPs and Busch!

Steve Johnson:

“I think you’ll see by the end of the weekend that this is a pretty successful event . . . but this is not about finances, it’s about a self-serving agenda. We want to be here and the people who will suffer most will be the many loyal Champ Car fans in Montreal and Quebec. We went to be here. We are looking at other locations in the area and in Montreal and we intend to be back, if not in ’07 than in ’08. We bring a lot of French, French-Canadian and Canadian drivers that other series won’t bring.”

She never qualified well in Atlantics either for some reason. I think KK knows she got thrown in the deep end this year. I doubt much was expected of her.

What is the point of having a back up car if you are not allowed to use it?

AJA blows up the engine in the warm up session and he is not allowed to use a back up car for the qualifying session? Whether they could get a back up car on track in 20 minutes is another question because it seems that they were not even allowed to try.

That kind of rule may have made sense a few years ago when the teams owned the engines but now they are all the same and the internals are not under their control. Why penalize the team for an engine (that they do not even own) blowing up?

The intention was to relieve teams of the expense of maintaining a backup car ready to run as an identical match to the primary. My understanding is that once you get the backup car out you have to use it for the race. So they had the option but the Forsythe team either could not or did not excercise it.

By the end of this weekend?

In my brush with greatness on Robin Miller's Q&A session, he thought there would be 20-22 entries next year.

I hope you are right, eh, but I gotta wonder what gives.
