Oh, you must be the guy that got yelled at by a CC official for leaning out over the wall at pit exit? :p Glad you moved around the corner I was able to get some fairly nice shots there myself...balanced on a brick wall and leaning on a light post at Braun's! :D Thanks for sharing, great stuff!

Oh, you must be the guy that got yelled at by a CC official for leaning out over the wall at pit exit?nope. wasn't me. I'm guessing you're talking about this shot??

the outside pit wall (driver's right) curved a bit allowing these head-on views. I was still safely behind the barrier however.

we were told early friday that they would evaluate that particular spot as the weekend progressed. no one said anything to me and I didn't hear anything from any of the officials or other photogs that weekend about it.

Are you turning the zoom ring as you shoot?

Re the head-on view down pit lane: I was exactly 90deg. to the right in that shot. Come to think of it the guy who got "lectured" was hauling a big video camera and he was hanging it over the wall from the INside pit wall. Could have been TV, I guess.

There were many "casual" fans(?) leaning on the walls along the track. Way more than I've noticed before and they all weren't photogs either. Much of this was covered in earlier topics but a rethink of who gets to stand there might be in order. Across from that little side patio at Brauns Pub an older lady stood leaning on the wall on the outside just past 5 (from the SWC paddock, I think) and on the INside all anyone had to do was walk down the stairs from the patio and onto the track!! Not even a plastic tape stretched across the opening! That seemed to me a serious security flaw. One young hand-holding couple was finally hustled away from there and he was very indignant because he "had helped build the track" and he had credentials! :shakehead Oh, well...

Are you turning the zoom ring as you shoot?sorry for the late reply. nope... no zoom tricks required. that effect is a function of the direction of the car travelling in relation to where I'm shooting. in other words... it's coming towards me. you can get this effect by using very slow shutter speeds (~1/25th and below) and by tracking a particular spot on the car.

here's another one I like to try... tracking the front nose and keeping that in focus gives the effect like the car is breaking some kind of time warp sound barrier or something :D

Great shot! It's perfect for a magazine two page spread with the text overlaid on the picture.
