Borat is my favorite Cohen charachter. Even the trailer had me in tears. I remember one Borat skit where he was going door to door running for local goverenment and he would say "you must vote for me because I have big balls". I about fell out of my chair.

you have to watch a couple of episodes of the Ali G show to understand.

that and realize that he's in character while everyone interacting with him in scenes in the US has no idea they're going to be on a comedy show...

That new Comedy Central show Dog Bites Man works on that model also. Pretty funny show.

Borat on Conan: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ayr6IMug8qU

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/28/movies/28bora.html

There is no Running of the Jews here. No one greets you with the expression “Jagshemash,” which is either nonsense, garbled Polish or mangled Czech; it’s hard to say. The country’s national drink is not made from horse urine, though fermented horse milk, or kumys, is considered a delicacy. (It tastes like effervescent yogurt.)

"Recent advertisements in television and in media about my nation of Kazakhstan saying that women are treated equally and that all religions are tolderated. These are disgusting barications. These claims are part of a propaganda campaign against our country by evil nitwits Uzbekistan," Cohen, in his Borat persona, told reporters outside the Kazakh Embassy in Washington on Thursday.

Kazakhstan, although the world's ninth-largest country by area, has a population of just 16 million and has been a blank spot on the mental map of much of the world. Its very obscurity provides Cohen with an empty canvas to paint an outlandish portrait of a country emerging from the Soviet yoke. For many people, Borat Sagdiyev provides everything they "know" about the country.

"Borat" played in only 837 theaters, fewer than one-fourth the count for "The Santa Clause 3" and "Flushed Away." Averaging a whopping $31,511 a theater, "Borat" easily outdistanced "The Santa Clause 3," which averaged $5,784 in 3,458 cinemas and "Flushed Away," which averaged $5,152 in 3,707 theaters.

Fox plans to expand "Borat" to as many as 2,500 theaters this Friday.

Not according to Mahir Cagri:

He has a point--when I saw the photos of Cohen as Borat and read about the character, I immediately thought of Mahir. And the Kazakh critics have pointed out that the Borat character looks more like a Turk than a Kazakh.

the USC fratboys are suing, saying that the producers took them to a bar, got them drunk, then had them sign the waivers before stuffing them in the RV.

The woman who booked him on the TV station:

Because of him, my boss lost faith in my abilities and second-guessed everything I did thereafter.... I spiraled into depression, and before I could recover, I was released from my contract early. It took me three months to find another job, and now I'm thousands of dollars in debt and struggling to keep my house out of foreclosure.... How upsetting that a man who leaves so much harm in his path is lauded as a comedic genius.

Borat finally got his @$$ kicked:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006520669,00.html

BORAT star Sacha Baron Cohen was beaten up by a passer-by after he tried to play a prank as his alter ego.

He approached the man and said: “I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it.”

But the bystander didn’t see the joke. He took one look at Cohen and punched him in the face.

The funnyman — known for his Borat catchphrase “Jagshemash!” — yelled for help but was slugged again and again.Surprised it didn't happen sooner.
