2:20 here, just barely finished lunch.

Slow weekend too. 23 cars at Elkhart Lake and a couple bike races.

30 minutes till I "kick off the weekend" (with a bottle opener).

Have a nice weekend everyone. See ya back at work, I mean OC, on Monday.

That reminds me of the cartoon where the big dog and Daffy (I think) clock out at the end of each long fighting day. Could have been Bugs though.

I was thinking about gathering a few friends and heading down to VIR to see the SuperBikes but the boating season is winding down and I like to get on the water whenever I can (I HATE WINTER!). Bikes or boat? Bikes or boat? Hmmm.

There's a vintage race prep shop next door to my new workplace. They are revving up a Cossie V8 at the moment. Nice music to work by! :)

Two months ago I traded my '99 Maxum 1900SR (carbed 5.0 V8 Merc w/300~hours) for a fully optioned, '06 Maxum 1800SR3 (4.3 MPI V6 ).
Yes, I lost a foot overall but the beam is the same and the extra foot was in the bow and not missed. I actually gained interior space because of the new optional seating which instead of the bench in front of the engine compartment; they put two seats on either side of the engine. We lost the sundeck with that config but Maxum ingeniously made the seats rise to make the sundeck! Cool.
So we gained almost 3' of interior space over our old 19'. This boat actually has more interior space than the 21' Maxum bowrider with the bench. We often have 6 or 7 adults with us and we aren’t tripping all over each other.
But my main reason for going with the 1800SR3 was the MPI V6. Exact horsepower as my old carbed 5.0 V8 (220hp) but with less weight and NO MORE CARB! WEEE!!! I'll never have a carbed boat again. She'll easily do 50 with a full boat of peeps on decent water (23pitch prop). I've had her up to 60 with just my wife and me on glass (and trimmed up all the way)
I'm currently shopping for a tower and hope to have that on before next season.

Here are a few pics.

The trunk is a drained compartment so on occasion we'll load that puppy up with ice and beverages. The glove box also has a drained cooler that fits 20 cans and 10lbs of ice. Not bad.

We live 20 minutes east from Lake Anna (A 13,000 acre nuclear plant reservoir good for wakeboarding, tubing, and general anchoring party spot) and 20 minutes west from the Potomac River. On the Potomac we go north and past the ship graveyard, past Quantico Marine Base and like to stop at historic Occoquan to eat lunch at one of their water side joints (40 minutes from our launch spot). From there it's another 40 minutes up past Mt Vernon (you can see it from the water) and up to Old Town Alexandria. From there it's a nice ten minute cruise past Reagan-National where the planes take off right over your head, past the Lincoln Memorial and into Georgetown to eat dinner. We also like to go South on the Potomac 20 minutes down to Capt Billy's to sit on their patio over the water and pick Chesapeake blue crabs for hours.
We also live 5 minutes away from the Rappahannock River that parallels the Potomac down to empty into the Chesapeake. The Rapp doesn't have the attractions that the Potomac has but it's a nice evening cruise river.

Yesterday we took my wife's sister and her family out on the Potomac for the day. Went up to Occoquan and stopped at Aquia Creek where they are having a two day Godspeed festival. The Godspeed is one of three ships that came to VA and settled Jamestown. This new replica was built using authentic period methods and is a functioning sailing vessel. It has made the journey to Great Britain. It's currently on an east coast tour. This pic was taken from our boat (it's a close as the coast guard would let us get.)
The three ships are commemorated on the VA quarter (the Godspeed is the one in the middle, the larger one is the Susan Constant and the smaller one is the Discovery.) When you see these ships in person it's hard not to marvel at how small they are for traveling across a vast ocean using only the stars to guide them. Incredible.

Lake Mansion (Gesit) here in Indy. I see dick-breath Scotty D onest in a while out there. He's got a big red wake board thang with his name on the side. Well, not his name, but his SIGNATURE - whatever. He walks up to the bar, and still no one GAF who he is. It's funny.

anyway - Geist is just local. Mostly up at the co-tage on Lake michigan. REAL water.
