I started a new job on Monday with a Defense Contractor at Scott AFB. We had a little diversion on Friday when these guys started buzzing around our office (My office is right next to the runway).

Those guys are coming to my town in a couple weeks. The Indianapolis Airshow at Mount Comfort Airport (which is actually in Hancock County to the east of Marion County) alternates the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels. I live just four or five miles from the airport. When it is the Blue Angel's turn, they always buzz my neighborhood at about a thousand feet in the days leading up to the show. Getting to know the local terrain, I'm guessing. The Thunderbirds tend to keep their pre-show practice closer or stay higher when away from the show site, because I rarely see them before the weekend of the show.

The F-15 saw a bunch of us standing out there and buzzed us at about 200 ft. We all turned into human dominoes!! :)

Sweet! Can't wait for the fighters to show up in Chicago in a few weeks. Lost count as to whether it is the T-birds or the Angels that come here this year. I live a few miles northwest of O'hare, and I have seen show traffic fly over my neighborhood in the past. With the new family addition due to show up sometime this week, I doubt I will make it down to the lakefront for the show this year...

I'm pretty sure the Military planes, at least, don't use O'Hare anymore. They used to come from Glenview, but now use Gary as the base for local operations.

I do remember one time back in the early 80's with some friends at North Ave and the announcer said the Blue Angels were cleared for take off at O'Hare. About 15 sec. later, they came screaming over the skyscrapers and headed out over the lake. Very Cool!

NEXT weekend. (I really wish ALMS at RA would stop being scheduled on the same weekend as the Chicago A&W show).

Even number year means it's the Angel's turn this year. If you recall, last year the 'birds dropped a "little" piece of plane in the drink a couple hundred yards off the shore just south of show central about half-way into their Saturday performance. Didn't get cleared to fly again for Sunday.

Btw, IR, if you work next to where the Thunderbirds practice, you might want to wear a helmet to work. :gomer: (actually really just jealous)

Planning on spending at least one of the days on my roof, breaking in my new 30D (too bad it doesn't capture sound) and zoom lens - might venture a couple blocks east to the lakefront the other day, depending on the weather.

Airshows rule.

That would be scary without eyes in the back of your head.

That P-51 looks like Crazy Horse, or Crazy Horse 2. Both are from Kissimmee, FL. Very nicely kept planes. Best kept exteriors on a P-51d for sure.
