Danica Patrick, Sam Hornish Jr., Marco Andretti, Bryan Herta and the rest of the IRL will spend the weekend by themselves at Michigan International Speedway.

Last year, track president Brett Shelton called the one-race weekend "a blip on the radar." Now, Shelton and his crew can call it two blips.

"This issue is, what do you put with it?" MIS spokesman Bill Janitz said.

It's a great question.

The years I went out there for CART they initially had TA and Lights and that was fine. Especially paired with a 500 mile event on Sunday, it did not seem like a lite weekend.

Then then with the demise of Lights, they brought in Trucks and then ARCA, both of which drew fans with no interest in CART. And those dronefests were a bore for the CART fans.

Without a healthier IPS they are not much of an option.

If it were me, I might consider some sort of short sprint races on Saturday that set qualifying for Sunday.

As is, there is no way I'd drive 12 hours like I used to to see anything at MIS

And nothing they could do will compare to three days of on track stuff (no to mention off track stuff) you get on a typical CC weekend

But soon to lose all radar contact

The full sordid tale (http://www.mlive.com/autoracing/jacitpat/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1153839931317050.xml&coll=3) Red flags for both the track situation and the EARL. The cup race needing the trucks to beef up Saturday attendance is bad sign. This track looks like it will die a lingering slow death as NASCAR focuses on major markets.

"This is NASCAR's only off-week between now and the rest of the season," Janitz said, "and the drivers who are in the IROC series don't want to give up that week off." This is a classic. :D Kinda lets you know where things stand priority wise.

Why don't they dress Danikle up in her FHM layout and put her in the stands to sign autographs for the dads. Then on track they could get A.J, the Chipster, Cap'n, Andretti the Lesser and Cheeser to do a little figure eight shriner go-kart "demostration" race. Now that's a Saturday worth drivin' for!! :gomer:
