Nicky Hayden on tops in the points. Site of his first win last year. Should be great.
I can;t figure out why it hasn;t caught on in the US that much. Crowd was pretty good last year, IIRC..

After his showing in Germany I expect the Ky Kid to have a great race a nd pace the weekend once again.
I expect Pedrosa to be tuff as well as Rossi and Melandri. Basically another Germany with Nicky pulling it out. I think had he been on the soft tires at Germany Nick may have won there too.

I'd say it HAS caught on. The crowd will be 4 times what it is for the current Champ Car event at Laguna. Or more.

Laguna Seca? Never heard of it.
I think Rossi will win it this weekend. The whole track has been repaved, with much of the character taken away - so everyone will be re-learning their setups.
I'm pretty stoked to be going this weekend! Last year, the race crowd was 67,000. It felt like a mid-90s CART race.

I bet motoGP would get a bigger crowd if they ran the SJGP course.
The German MotoGP last week was the best race I`ve seen this year :thumbup:

Nice that we'll get to see qualifying at least once this year. As close as the top guys are it's anyone's guess. What we do know 100% for certain is that these guys will be going at it hammer and tong from the moment the lights go out.

This new one follows Rossi, Edwards and Hayden (and other riders) at last years USGP, interviews their families, mechanics, etc. It covers the race weekend, session to session.
"Faster" is still the best MotoGP film IMO, but this new one is worth the $25 for sure.

Did I hear right that Pedrosa is only 5' 2" and barely over a hundred pounds? While I think its not necessarily bad that some sports might favor a smaller guy, I have to wonder how much it helps to be so small. I don't think it would be entirely fair to make him carry the full weight as ballast, but watching the previous race, you can see he has a big advantage when accelerating.
I saw Pedrosa in the paddock today. I had the urge to call security and tell them a 7 year old boy was lost in the paddock! 100 lbs. is generous, seriously.

Nick is a rock star, but there's nothing new about that for followers of motorsport. Good methodic march to the front today - I hope he wins the title.
Great copter angles and the low camera at the corkscrew. The production on that race was so good - particularly compared to the Champ Car BS, which has improved somewhat this year to be the equivalant of suck.
The problem w/moto GP IMO is that the races are over with too fast. Other than that, it's quite good. But that's the way it's been for ever. :gomer:

Great race result from where I sit but it's too bad Vermeulen's Bridgestones weren't up to making more of a race of it. I wanted Hayden to win, but a pass or two back and forth would have been nice. Good effort from KR jr. today. They're starting to look competitive.
I thought the camera work was fine on the broadcast but Ralph frickin Shaheen is a complete idiot. Guess he got so excited he forgot he was there to call the race... :confused: Freddy jumped in and called it until they could get Shaheen's main logic unit rebooted after which he commenced to do his job to the best of his rather limited ability. :shakehead

Anybody else notice how his voice quivers when he gives an interview? I realize he's exhausted and all but it would make you think he was strung out on something. :laugh:
Too bad for Rossi's blowed up but hey, shiat happens! Good for the kid. :thumbup:
Every time they showed them flipping side-to-side in the Corkscrew I would scream a little. :cool:
In MotoGP terms, Nicky blew away the field.
When Rossi blew, I thought for sure that someone was going to wipe out in the oil. Very glad no one did.

I don't know if it was ABC's decision, but there were not many crowd shots.
Rossi shot his tires before his motor blew.
The track was bumpy, and the rider's earned their pay yesterday. A sight to behold, is 20 bikes going through the corkscrew.

LOTS of umbrella girls in the paddock. :) Upon my arrival home, my wife was laughing as I downloaded the pics to the computer....
I wanted Vermeulen to win - he's my favorite rider, but I also want Hayden to win the championship so it was a good result.
I got Kenny Roberts Jr. to sign my SeventhGear hat! :laugh:
It was HOT HOT HOT at Laguna Seca, over 100 degrees for most of the day. SCRAMP lowered the price of water to $1/bottle, then started handing it out for free. Sirens from ambulances were constant due to heat stress victims. Lots of people showed up totally unprepared for a day in the sun during a forecasted heat wave. I rode in with a gallon of water, bought a few bottles, then rode home for 2.5 hours in 100 degree heat. It was a long day, but worth the effort.
I wish SPEED would use the normal British MotoGP announcers for the broadcast, but I understand their decision. Shaheen is awful, and Freddie Spencer is a super nice guy and incredibly accomplished, but I don't like his broadcasting style. He's just not very articulate and uses the same phrases over and over.

:laugh: The trip down the coast was good - it was super early and I stopped for coffee at my favorite coffee shop ever (Aptos Coffee Roasting Co.). The sun was coming up, so I snapped a few pics.
This is the bike in front of the coffee shop. Long-term OffCamberites may remember the advice I received here on which motorbike to buy. 2.5 years later, the VFR has 51,000 miles on it! Good advice...

So I watched the ABC re-broadcast of the USGP yesterday out of curiosity and sure enough it was pressdog's favorite broadcaster Todd Harris calling the race. That said, I was stunned to see that it was better in most regards to what we saw on SPEED. After going through the endless montages (ABC has a woody for montages)
Harris and former AMA & FIM champ Kevin Schwanz called the race and Todd did pretty well considering he's, well, Todd Harris. Fact is he came off as a savant compared to that idiot Ralph Shaheen who froze when the race started. ABC cut out small parts of the race to make room for all the montages, but they did include every pass and significant occurrence during the race. The post-race interview with Hayden at the interview table was better than what SPEED had done as well.

In my opinion announcers ought to "freeze" more often. I actually enjoyed that few moments!
