your statement about winning w/ Peterson alone w/ no QB is just dumb. OU has no o-line, Peterson needs an effective vertical passing game to keep defenses honest with his upright power running style. intentionally playing so you have no effective qb, instead of trying to develop the #1 qb in the nation from the '03 class in his 2nd year of starting makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. :saywhat:

I'm just telling you a rumor for reliable sources close to OU. Boosters and such that support OU and other Big 12 north teams.

Peterson they believe can do more, the sacrificial lambs were quinn and bomar. Peterson has been caught with inappropriate $ just as OSU players have been.

This is typical spurrier/stoops style. Just make the changes when you feel the heat, get rid of the players you can somewhat depart with. Adrian has been very good to OU, even being hurt, still wanting to be there and play. If stoops and all like peterson, and see more in him than the others, i have no doubt this would happen.

Stoops said the players, who were dismissed from the team on Wednesday, "knowingly" broke the rules.

"Both parties were aware that their actions were in violation of NCAA rules. They did it over a long and extended period of time," Stoops said. "That's conduct that we won't tolerate here at the University of Oklahoma."

they may be protecting peterson due to past involvement with that dealership, but the the whole logic you present for why they would only want him and no bomar makes absolutely zero sense. it's not that it makes no sense, it's that no idiot at all involved with the sport would ever propose something so idiotic unless they have Defender level program insider status :gomer:

Excuse me. Let me clarify this inaccurate statement. Troy Smith 'earned' $400, sat two games, and paid the $$$ back. No other OSU player was found to have taken any $$$, or received any favors (outside of MC13s idiocy with the borrowed car), despite and exhaustive NC2A investigation.

Peterson's indiscretion was similar to MC13, and involved a car deal.

Dickinson Cattle is one of the world’s leading suppliers of high-quality registered Texas longhorns.

"We tell people we’re the major exporter of Texas longhorns — to Texas," said Darol Dickinson, who, with his wife and adult children, owns and runs the operation.

"Gibraltar, the largest longhorn in Texas, comes from here," Dickinson noted.

"If you go to Texas and tell them the largest longhorn is from Ohio, they’ll swear you’re lying, but it’s true."

that first post is from January!!

I ill try to be as discrete as possible, because i din't want to implicate someone and then get sued. My girlfriend works in the office of a large dealership where we live. She has only been there about a month, and she was dealing with handing out payroll checks. She didn't recognize several of the names, and asked her boss. Her boos told her that she would take care of them, and that it was no big deal. She thought it was fishy and asked me....the checks were made out to football players of the local University, and even though they had never actually been to work there, they were recieving HUGE!!!! pay checks. On top of this a player was in buying a car recently, and when she say the finance stuff, he had only paid about 1/100th of the sticker price. Is this legal?

I wonder what kind of lazy compliance officers didn't catch the paychecks the first time they investigated, and how bad it's going to come down with this 2nd investigation into the same place...

NORMAN -- An employee at Jackie Cooper Imports in Edmond confirmed on Saturday that Nelson Peterson, father of Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, is an employee at the car dealership.

Jackie Cooper, an Oklahoma City-area businessman for more than five decades, is listed as an official financial donor to the University of Oklahoma athletic department...

Nelson Peterson was recently released from a federal prison in Texarkana
...

The employee said Peterson's hire was unusual but not unprecedented for the dealership. For privacy reasons, he declined to identify whether Peterson was employed full- or part-time and what his duties at the dealership are.

New Rule: If the scoreboard says you lost, you lost. That's not going to change. Take an hour to vent postgame, then try to regain your sanity. Do not diminish your quality of life -- and the quality of life of those around you -- by spewing for days about the refs who cheated your team, the flagrant league bias against your team or the complete lack of class displayed by the team that beat your team. Your team l-o-s-t. Try to deal.

New Rule: If you know the tailgate lot at the stadium like the back of your hand but wouldn't be able to find the campus library without joining a tour group, reevaluate your priorities.

New Rule: It's August. Refrain from posting on your team's message boards that your coach needs to go. At least let him fall behind by a touchdown in September -- or if you really want to be patient, let him even lose an entire game -- before demanding regime change.

New Rule: Try using your real name on a message board. It might be a liberating feeling to stand behind your words, instead of hiding behind the handle "GatrHatr88," or whatever lame nom de cyberplume you choose.

New Rule: The offensive coordinator has feelings, too. Try to remember that.

New Rule: Nobody else thinks his or her team gets enough respect from the media, either. You're encouraged to come up with a new complaint.

New Rule: If you know the name of the long snapper but don't know the name of the school president, reevaluate your priorities.

New Rule: By all means, have a couple of pregame beers if you want. Try to stop before 12, though.

New Rule: If you didn't stop at 12, remember this: The people sitting around you in the stadium or standing next to you at the urinal don't think you're funny. And they don't want to hold you up when you tip over. Especially at the urinal.

(Aside: colleges might want to study the new Bengals initiative: they have instituted a "jerk" hotline for fans to call to report abusive, profane and intoxicated louts in the stadium to authorities. Then again, considering the arrest record of Marvin Lewis' squad, fans could easily report a bunch of the guys in uniform.)

New Rule: Yes, Notre Dame is different. Get over it. If your school were important enough to get its own NBC contract and thumb its nose at conference affiliation, do you really think it would decline?

New Rule: If you spend more on face paint, clothes in school colors, tailgate accessories and an RV horn that honks the school fight song than you spend on charity, reevaluate your priorities.

New Rule: If you insist on smugly condemning the complete lack of morality and ethics at Rival U when one of its players gets in trouble, prepare a good defense for when one of your team's players screws up the next week. Today's "great kid" could be tomorrow's armed robber.

New Rule: Every other team in America says it had a great summer in the weight room, too. Every other team in America had great attendance at "voluntary" summer workouts, too. Every other team in America says the chemistry and attitude are better than last year, too. So don't get prematurely overconfident based on the usual August rhetoric.

New Rule: When the hotshot freshman quarterback isn't playing yet, rationally consider the possible reasons why. I mean beyond the fact that the coach is an absolute moron. Maybe the kid is an absolute moron who cannot learn the playbook.

New Rule: We know you have a brilliant, unique, surefire plan for an NCAA football playoff. Your barber, your bank teller and the kid working the espresso machine at Starbucks have playoff plans too. And Myles Brand isn't interested in any of them.

New Rule: If you're on a voice-recognition basis with a call-in show producer or have your own call-in show persona and handle (like "Wolverine Mark"), reevaluate your priorities.

New Rule: An 0-1 start is not the end of the world, especially with a 12-game schedule. Unless you start 0-1 with a buy game against what was supposed to be a guaranteed chump. Then you can pound the panic button.

New Rule: Before your fan message board mounts an e-mail lobbying campaign to poll voters demanding higher rankings for your school, consider: Is it effective or obnoxious to send out 200 e-mails that all parrot the same "talking points"? And how silly is it for football fans to have "talking points"? After careful consideration of those questions, hit the delete button.

New Rule: If you're over the age of, say, 14, beseeching players as they leave the field for a receiving glove is unseemly and best avoided. I mean, who other than Michael Jackson is going to get excited about a single glove?

New Rule: Flying a car flag when your team is 5-0 is easy. Try it when your team is 0-5.

New Rule: It is understandable and acceptable to wonder (out loud) why Temple is still playing Division I-A football.

New Rule: If you turn to a sportswriter for guidance on how to be a college football fan, reevaluate your priorities.

On one side of the great debate, we have Mr. College Ball Himself, Ivan Maisel, wearing Bear's houndstooth and arguing that 32 bowl games are better than a single undisputed national champion.

On the other side, we have Mr. NFL Himself, Len Pasquarelli, wearing Lombardi's horn-rims and quoting from the Pete Rozelle "Parity Is Beautiful" playbook.

The neutral ground between these two rhetorical gunslingers is no place to be caught during a duel at 20 paces. But as a fan of football on Saturdays and Sundays, I'm trying to see it both ways. While Carville and Rove blaze away at each other from their partisan perspectives, let's examine this debate semi-objectively.

As for me, I'll take college foosball over the NFL anyday, but the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl beat college foosball hands down.

I'd take last year's slate of bowl games even before the Rose Bowl over any superbowl I've seen.

Maybe if 90% of the coaches in the league would remove Bill Walsh's phallus from their mouth and try to come up with something fresh (Like Indy, NE, NYG, DAL, TB, NO) instead of the same 1st & 2nd down halfback dives with the typical down & distance call on 3rd it could be more interesting :gomer:

In this case, the Super Bowl and playoffs are considered as a whole. Games like Cincy/Stillers and Colts/Stillers we good shows. Browncos/Stillers and all of the NFC games not so much. NFL playoffs > 1/2 of the college bowls.

At least 1 of the BCS bowls is quality every year too. Last year, each one was a good show. The non-bcs first tier bowls are usually good too, outback & cap one are top notch usually, peach can be good, cotton & gator usually are, and the holiday bowl is always good stuff that comes down to the wire.

Yea, the bottom bowls suck, easy solution is to not watch :gomer: But even then, there were some really good **** bowls like watching Navy play @ San Diego, Rutgers keeping up with ASU in a battle of pass happy spreads, & Nebraska/Michigan Alamo...

Nebraska/Michigan Alamo...

My roomate flew to San Antonio to go to that with his dad. I was watching another game at the time, but when he called I switched the channels and watched the replay and that game was insane. He said the Riverwalk was incredible and the game was nuts.

I like watching smaller bowls, I enjoy seeing teams that you normally don't see on TV because often those teams have some talent and things going for them.

The new BCS system next year however I am not a fan of. Now with 5 bowls, Notre Dame is sure to get a bowl game even if they only win 3 games each year. If the media and ESPN pumped Notre Dame anymore, I would vomit.

I like bowl season even with screwed up teams way more that NFL playoffs or the Super Bowl. I just have stopped liking the NFL since Buffalo got bad in the early 90's. The teams are so even, and the season games are a predictable 21-17 score, 90% of the times. College is uneven and exciting, the talent pool is more diverse and I really enjoy it.

Not too shabby of a writeup, but lots of pissy inferiority complex about capital buildings & state flags and such, and his tastebuds need to be readjusted, his list of BBQ & Tex-Mex places is atrocious. But a decent list of things to do during the weekend.

He does make some great sense though:

Now on to the girls. Man are they hot. This city is fit, and the girls are FAR hotter than up north

I have found that, on average, if you meet a random person in Austin, TX (or Texas in general) and a person from Columbus, OH (or central Ohio), the Texan is FAR more likely to be a good, nice person...

I love Ohio State to death, and would seriously kill to get back to freshman year, but I’ll be honest – I’m glad to be here.

After our showing last year, I honestly have no clue how the Horns are going to treat us. I’d like to think they’ll be nice, but everyone down here knows what s*****, trashy hosts we were, so I’m not expecting the best. We’ll see.

Clarett has ties to Jewish Mafia

http://www.onnnews.com/?sec=home&story=10tv/content/pool/200608/1670308392.html

Reported by Kevin Landers

Did Maurice Clarett have a personal and business relationship with a known mobster? According to ESPN, the answer is yes.

In the ESPN article, Clarett's attorney is quoted as saying his client may have been in possession of firearms the night of his arrest last week to protect himself against mob activity.

It was during that arrest that police say they found four loaded guns inside Clarett's SUV.

ESPN is reporting that Clarett was bankrolled by an alleged member of an Israeli crime organization after leaving Ohio State.

In the late summer of 2004, ESPN learned, Clarett traveled to Los Angeles and was introduced by a rapper friend to Hai Waknine, a convicted felon who prosecutors believe is a member of an Israeli crime organization called The Jerusalem Group.

According to the article, Waknine provided Clarett with cash, a BMW, bodyguards, drivers and beachfront lodging in Malibu, California, with the understanding that he would be reimbursed and receive 60 percent of Clarett's rookie contract.

When asked if Clarett was carrying the weapons because he was in fear, Dominic Mango, Clarett's attorney says, "I can't speak to that."

When asked what he did know, Mango says, "I know that he did in fact have a relationship, a friendship with this individual and that Mr. Clarett was contacted in regards to that case."

Clarett's attorney says he's received several death threats. Recently, a note card was sent to the law office of Clarett's attorney from Los Angeles. It had no return address, but it contained a message spelled out in cut-out letters.

His attorney called it disturbing.

The letter was sent to the FBI to see if they can determine who sent it.

Guess that is what happens when you ask Jim Brown for advice on quitting college.

What a joke he's become. Just to go jail already. Leave OSU and everyone alone.

So I'm going up to NYC to work in the fall,(my classes I needed to graduate were in conflict, I come back to UF in January) and I just bought plane tickets last night, here are my booked ones as of right now. I believe I'll be adding either the UF/Bama or UF/LSU(homecoming) to my list soon.

October 6-8, NYC - Columbus to see the Ohio State/BG game.
October 27-29, NYC - Jacksonville to see the UF/UGA game, and get beyond wasted
November 10-12, NYC - Gainesville to see the UF/South Car. game(watch Spurrier beat us at home with a crappy team. No I'm not joking, we will probably lose)

And last but not least, the ticket I want to purchase more than life itself, but have to work out multiple things is:
Nov 23 NYC - Omaha, spend thanksgiving with my roomate and his family
Nov 24 go to the Nebraska/Colorado game
Nov 25 Omaha - Tallahasse, flight leaves at 730am
Nov 25 at 330pm should be the time for the UF/FSU game
Nov 26 Tallahassee - NYC

Seeing 2 of the biggest games of the year would be awesome, if I can get a ticket instead to the Michigan/OSU game, I will probably not go see spurrier beat us on Nov 11th, change my ticket, and will go to Ohio again and forget also forget my thanksgiving trip.

But when I last looked for a ticket to gainesville it was 500 for Thanksgiving weekend, while this Nebraska and FSU multiflight ticket is only 625. Might as well get 2 games in if I have a chance. If I get a OSU/Mich tix, this is all out of the window.

Friend of mine was supposed to be getting married on UF/UGA weekend. Honestly if you haven't been to FL/GA you have to go, it is beyond drunk and fun. I was going to be an usher, I told her and her fiance I wouldn't be attending since they decided to have their wedding not only on football saturday, but on the saturday I've had most fun at in college.

With enough cancelations, and few attending friends, they finally rescheduled the wedding for October 20. So now I fly 3 times in October, 2 times for football and once for this wedding. I honestly would not have attended. Everyone I know, knows that I will not be at their wedding if they are stupid enough to make it on college football saturday. There are 52 weeks in the year, don't make it during football season.

Depends on who you listen to, but frankly, no one gets to see real practices. Not even the beat writers that cover the Bucks for a living. Don't believe that Ginn is all we have. Gonzo is prolly a better overall WR, and just a tad slower than #7 (tho, he looks like he's 35+), and I expect (hope?) Roy Hall finally lives up to his David Boston-like physique and hype. Plus, there are several very capable Sophs and Frosh in the WR ranks (Dukes, Robiskie, Lyons, and Small are all highly touted). I honestly don't think the loss of 'San Antonio' Holmes is gonna hurt us as much as you think. Add Chris 'Beanie' Wells to the backfield, and this is gonna be a far more potent O than last year when y'all played us.
