Just picked up a Palm Tungsten E2 (http://www.palm.com/us/products/handhelds/tungsten-e2/) for the wife. I know nothing about PDAs... I've never wanted one (I write my appointments on my hand. :gomer: ), therefore I have never researched them... so buying one was pretty much a crapshoot. Anyhow, I bought the Tungsten E2 already, the wife is having fun with it, so I don't care if there are better ones out there... my job is done. Or so I thought.

Evidently there are games you can load on to it (my kids told me this... go figure), as well as other helpful programs (maps, things like that). Does anyone know a good, reliable site where I can find any of this stuff? The free-er the better, but I'm sure the good stuff comes at a price. Are there any "must-have" programs for it? Any help is appreciated.

Popcap (popcap.com) has some nice games that are available in Palm format - download or memory card - stuff that's easy to play on the medium, like Bookworm, Easy Money and Mars Needs Cows (you can really freak people out with the sound effects on that one!)

I use Quicken for my finances, and there is a Palm version as well - it syncs with the desktop software, so you can enter transactions in either place (with all the standard warnings about duplicate transactions etc.)

For a while there I tried a free version of some mapping software, but you basically had to find the location on your desktop PC, then load the info into the Palm.

The Palm store has a lot, but you may want to google "palm software" - there are other providers out there. I have a pretty high-end Bible reference software loaded on my Palm - full text, Greek/Hebrew dictionary, full concordance and cross-references - that I got from another source.

Can you tell I really like mine? I've used it as an alarm clock on trips, have my entire Christmas card list/address book loaded, extensive to-do lists and the like.

She'll have fun!

Unfortunately I gave up on Palm and got an Axim ~ a year ago. I was a Palm user since '98, but I tired of waiting for an integrated WiFi device (which they promptly announced shortly after my Axim arrived :saywhat: ). I still have an Audrey in my kitchen. In any case, I digress...Avantgo is a must. It allows for saving maps and directions, as well as news and articles from various sites of interest. I also suggest Launcher as a replacement for the standard Palm desktop. There are also a bunch of utilities available, depending on her needs. Palmgear.com has a good selection of free and shareware. Download.com used to have a bunch of Palm stuff linked from the top page, but apparently it's been mixed in with the rest now. Here's a link for Palm stuff from a search using the term Palm: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=palm&tag=srch I'll dig around for links to other sites I may have saved, but no longer use.

EDIT: looks like many of the old Palm sites have folded or merged. Here's a couple that are still available:
