Am I the only one tweaked by the fact that even though the event ended early enough for CBS to provide half an hour of post-race coverage, and there was plenty of time during the telecast to air the usual Michelle Beisner nonsense, there wasn't a single syllable uttered about this anniversary? :thumdown:

At least one other viewer noticed that. It may have been that any video clips that CBS had of Jeff were owned by ABC? I wouldn't have wanted to see the crash again, but you're right. A mention of the tragedy and a shot of and comment about the monument would have been nice.

Good point, but a significant "anniversary", ten years on, could/should have had a five second rememberance, IMHO. But I understand your point. Difficult decision or oversight? We'll never know.

That article was a very moving tribute to both Jeff Krosnoff and Gary Avrin. At the Arciero/EOS Winery in Paso Robles, the Arciero family maintains a permanent racing exhibit, including a memorial to Jeff; the centerpiece is his beautiful #25 MCI car.

It would have been nice if the race broadcast had at least included a photo of Jeff and Gary with some kind of "In memorium" text, say at the conclusion of the show.

There is a plaque to both of them around where the tree used to stand (it died)... I've seen it before online, but now can't find it. i got a couple shots in my collection of krosnoff in the Detroit paddock just one month before. :(

A month or two ago, I was doing some house cleaning. I found the picture I took of Jeff at Belle Isle. I brought it with me to Toronto, but left it at the hotel on Friday. I told Jeff I had a great picture of him, and he told me that if I found him on Saturday, he'd be sure to sign it for me. I found him, and he did - signing a perfect autograph. Sunday he was gone.

15 years, and it still hurts.

I first learned about Jeff a few weeks prior to that TO race at Nazareth.

It was the first Champ car race I had been to in years. I finally had enough spare change and time to take in a few races and it rekindled a passion for the sport I've had ever since. Jeff by himself didn't have a lot to do with that but his death reminded me just how dangerous this sport really is, just how challenging it is, and just how fragile the heroes are... but as a kid I sure got fatigued by the death, fire and injuries. Any accident was a huge deal likely to bring dread. I'm grateful that has changed and am glad to replace that dread with amazement at the safety engineering in the sport.

I was really pleased to find that the old Speedcenter site is still available as an archive. Peter Burke always did such a great job with his photography. His Jeff Krossnof tribute is still in there.

Thanks for the info on Speed enter, nrc. I was actually just wondering about that today.

I was at the race in Toronto. I remember they showed the replay once on the Jumbotron (I was sitting in the main grandstand on the front stretch) and knew it was bad.

We'll never forget.
