I can't post a picture from the site, but go to : http://www.itv-f1.com/Home.aspx and click on the Bizarre BMW wings. Ban those stupid looking things fast, they are about as pleasant as a wart on the face.

Crap! I can't find it! The Arrows (Lost Boys) wing that they put in front of the driver 4/5 years ago..... UGLY!

I didn't think the X-wings were that bad, but that IS ugly. Probably the same use as the McLaren samurai wings and Renault top front nose wings. Which I believe matchett said help with crosswinds and general stability.

It's so he can aim straight while trying to drop his photon bomb into the Death Star's exaust port.

Cam, wasn't that Monaco ~2001? And as I recall, after the car practiced they made them pull the wing off, and the car never raced that way.

didn't Jordan have a similar wing as the Arrows around that time?

Gotta wonder about the aerodynamics of that dent

Last time I checked carbon fibre did not handle denting particularly well. Kind of makes you wonder if it is somebody's idea of a joke.

You know what? I've got the feeling when engineers start reaching into such rinky-dink little areas for an advantage there must be something fundamentally wrong with the rules package and its administration.

Yeah it was Monaco. I am having a hell of a time finding what year tho. I do know VerCrashen was one of the pilotes so it was either 2000 or 2001...

Where's the dent?

That bright bit, halfway down sort of below the n in sutton.

That is a very oddly shaped bit of brightness.

pretty sure brightness is all it is... CF doesn't dent, it breaks

I see it, but I think it is just a light reflection off the front wing. I can't imagine carbon fiber holding a dent like that without cracking.

My point being that it might not be carbon fiber, just some plastic to screw with people's minds.

My point being that it might not be carbon fiber, just some plastic to screw with people's minds. It does look a bit like something they cranked out on an SLA solid modeling machine after too little sleep or too many beers...

Maybe they machined them out of lead, it could help explain their stellar performance.

"Therefore, under Article 2.3 of the F1 Technical Regulations, unless any team concerned can clearly demonstrate to the satisfaction of the technical delegate and the stewards that their driver's vision is not impaired in any way by such devices, no bodywork higher than the top of the front roll structure will be permitted forward of it."

And surely the stewards will not be satisfied so long as it is butt ugly.

I'm happy with the ruling, but they are unlikely to ever complain about the array of antenna, cameras and transponder pods hanging out on the nose no matter how much it is in the driver line of sight.
