So...a few days ago my wife and I were returning home from a weekend away, and as we were on I-94 heading west to the NW suburbs of Chicago, someone drove past us in what appeared to be some kind of single seater LMP type car, complete with a wide, straight rear wing and low sidepods around a raised, enclosed cockpit. Aside from those bare details, I couldn't tell you anything else about it from observation. I would doubt myself as perhaps having had a daydream, except the wife saw it too. She's not a racing type, so not much useful information could be gleaned from her description. Hell, if you asked her what it looked like, she'd tell you it was yellow. :D

Anyhow, anyone have any reasonable guesses as to what it was I actually saw?

I can't say for sure, but it certainly looks like it to me!

What I can't fathom is why anyone would spend ~$100K for that kit, engine & transaxle to get a tube framed knock off of an LMP.

The same money gets you a M6 or a 911 or a Panoz...
:shakehead

Yeah, but a 911 doesn't hold the 0-60-0 record. ;)

I just couldn't believe this LMP looking thingie was cruising past me on an Illinois toll road. A little bit on the surreal side...

You think that you are joking.

There is a 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet cruising around this town with motorized spinners and full purple neon undercar lighting :shakehead

I always watched that show as a kid for that car....

Why would you pay upwards of 100 grand for a kit when you could get an ariel atom 2 for 2/3rds of the price? And in the 300 hp config she will probably beat almost anything out there in the 0-60-0 test

People and money sometimes......

There used to be a company here called Fiero Conversions. They'd kit out a Fiero to 'try' and look like almost anything else.

 I remember some guy back a dozen years ago or so had one of those that was supposed to be a Ferrari package. He was a real douchebag. Slimey mo-fo with chains and stuff, used to cruise the bars ad show off his "Project Ferrari" (srsly - he called it that).

we made fun of him to the point he took his show to another part of town - or maybe the POS finally just fell apart.

Upon reflection - was this, perhaps, the beginning of the ricer BooM! :saywhat:
