Only if he wants to pay for the naming rights. Corzine is looking to sell everything and anything to pay the bills.

In a fit of major suck up, Christy Whitman built a Howard Stern rest stop on I195. It's closed now because the State is too broke to clean the bathrooms

We do have a Vince Lombardi Service Center on the Turnpike though.

And speaking of rest stops, Jim MCGreevey used to give hummers at GS Parkway rest stops. Actually, he may still do it, though he is now a happily "kept man" for a weathy Aussie Wall Street financeer type. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Excuse me, miss? May I have a new pair of briefs? That pretty much defines the term "crab into the wind." Doing that in a plane that size takes some serious skill and large attachments. Given they were landing in 150mph gusting winds I'm surprised he didn't run out of rudder. Good they got it planted on the 2nd attempt.

oc

Andrew Longman
03-03-08, 06:19 PM
I've landed (as a passenger) when I could see the length of the runway from my seat, but never so bad as that.

I think the wind shifted or he lost rudder as you said OC when he made his initial touchdown. Very luck the left wingtip didn't dig in.

Stubborn pilot syndrom IMO.

G.
03-03-08, 07:05 PM
I had a landing similar to that, but the pilot stuck it.

Turns out, we landed at ORD hours after this happened, crash in Indiana (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A06E3DF163EF931A35752C1A9629582 60).

When you are close enough to count people in the cars below, and the plane is pitchrollyaw-ing like a carnival ride, you know you're in for a good one.

I'll never forget the co-pilot coming on the intercom suggesting that we give the pilot a round of applause. Not kidding.

Plane hit left rear gear, then tipped over to the right and front gears, then slammed down. Then the pilot steered us back to sort-of-center.

I question the "150 mph" winds though. It's hard to stand up in 60-70 mph winds and 150 mph winds would have those weeds laid over like thrashed wheat not simply whipping around occasionally.

Could it be 150 km/h?

03-03-08, 07:42 PM
That 150 mph number is idiotic. A 150 mph wind gust would have knocked that cameraman into the next county and you would not have been able to hear a thing over the wind noise across the microphone. That is way over force 12 and there is no way in hell an airport would be in operation in winds anywhere near that.
