Discovery Channel has jumped the shark...yeah. The Discovery Channel always pretty much acknowledged that Shark Week was their unique answer to the Sweep Weeks challenge that sets rates for a lot of the year, but they also knew their audience weren't composed of idiots either.

I guess they have since decide (based on a lot of their other ridiculous useless new programming) that non-idiots are not a large enough demographic to satisfy their investors. :\

TUN == Team Up North

OHNO is what the TUN did during the halftime show during the first game of the season. It's a slight on The Ohio State University.

TBDBITL == The Bast Damn Band in the Land, or The Ohio State University Marching Band

CLASS == acting with class. Consult a dictionary for the definition. :gomer:

A team with no siimilar complex such that they can't speak of their greatest rival's name. In fact, they proudly say "Oh how I hate Ohio State" and "Oh No"

Was I supposed to get goose bumps? You are OK. There is something in the atmosphere south of Toledo and West of Pittsburgh or there abouts that causes a positive visceral reaction to any silver domes and red jerseys. What is the point of that thing? There's no way it could carry enough fuel to get itself and a big payload into orbit and then hovercraft its way back to the ground. Flying across a pasture is one thing, dropping through miles of turbulent atmosphere is quite another. And is a 30% reduction in payload worth the savings of a far more expensive reusable booster? Especially if you can launch multiple payloads off of the heavy version of the primary?

KLang

The goal is a reusable booster. The wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grasshopper_%28rocket%29) explains it pretty well.

Personally I'd prefer to see work done on SSTO solutions.

I’m not sure we’ll ever see a single stage to orbit vehicle. It takes a huge amount more “umph” to go from stationary on the ground to a couple thousand miles per hour 25 miles up than it takes to go from that point to orbit. Even a winged vehicle that carries the orbiter to altitude wouldn’t get it high, or fast enough to go the rest of the way in a single stage.

I agree that a vertical landing buster make no sense at all.

nrc

I agree that a vertical landing buster make no sense at all.

I would have said the same thing until I saw that video. If they can manage the control and landing apparatus without adding too much to the cost it might just work. If you think about it these first stages are already designed for high vertical loads.

Jesus, can you imagine how much that place cost? Even before you get to the cost of the actual living unit you have a ton of money tied up in the garage which as an extremely expensive elevator associated with in and high load floors.

Edit - PS, when I was a kid my brother had a toy car garage that functioned in a similar manner. Also nearby downtown Youngstown, Ohio had a couple of car garages that operated on a similar manner. It was on a fairly small lot but you could "stack" cars something like 8 high and 10- 15 across.

Australian-born Stephen Fisher, who has lived in Sentosa Cove since April 2009, is also smitten.

The hedge fund manager at First Degree Global Asset Management upgraded from his 3,000 sq ft condo in Grange Road for a little slice of heaven on the island.

He bought the 7,800 sq ft plot of land for $3.5 million in 2005 and spent $2.4 million on the construction of the 5,800 sq ft house.

[In 2010], popular tech site Gizmodo named the two-storey house, dubbed the Fish House, one of the top five most relaxing homes in the world.
