If Kent does get revamped to modern standards it could be another permanent road course for Champ Car to look at, since it is near a major metropolitan center.

2.25 miles with and elevation change of nearly 200 feet. USRRC, Trans Am, and USAC raced there in the 60s.

One can dream...

needs some more turns, but more road more better.

It's a beautiful layout - the paddock is like a nice camping spot with pine trees surrounding the area. The track winds through forest, it's almost Nurburgring-like.

It would take A LOT of modernization to be safe for Champcar, which will likely ruin the cool atmosphere of the current track. But, Sears Point was modernized and still has it's "soul", IMO, so it can be done.

I think the idea of lowering the track surface twenty feet and creating a "natural" sound wall around the track is an interesting concept. It makes the track more friendly to encroaching development while creating great GA seating with blankets and beer coolers all aroung the circuit.

Now just add Musco lighting with a high UV content for all night beach volleyball and tanning and I'm there!

Maybe TB or someone else can help me out.... Wasn't Rockingham (England) buried as well?

That cuts out the all important Albino demographic......

A little competition for the Portland raceway / beach volleyball center would probably be a good thing about now, even if it never actually happened. People are never as quick to dump (or relocate) something they have when someone else is after the same customers. Human nature and all that...

I oppose the ISC deal because I don't want taxes to support another sports stadium. Too many people are looking at the deal saying "When we have a track, NASCAR will be here". NASCAR might be here, but it won't instantly be the Nextel racers like people are assuming.

I would support the upgrades to Pacific Raceways. It's not going to cost the taxpayers anything, and it looks like they want to do something about the noise issue so the neighbors won't complain as much. But, unfortunately, most people only think of Nextel Cup when people say "racing".

It's a fun track, but it's definitely time to update it. It looks more like Rouen on GPL than a modern facility. Wait, what the hell am I saying? Leave it alone!

This may sound odd, but creating a "natural sound wall" would pizz off a few local residents (my dad and step-mom) who actually enjoy the sounds that travel up from the track as it is, and they have lived 1 1/2 miles up the highway (Lake Morton) for 15 years now.

Needless to say, I'd LOVE to see ChampCar there..I wouldn't need a hotel room or anything!!! :D

I hope Portland continues on the schedule for next year but with the continued low gate count, the city imposing a new 9:00 a.m. sound ordinance , I expect Johnson will drop it like a hot potato .
Pacific Raceways is closer to Vancouver thus might produce a larger fan base.

It's funny you say that some will be offed, because all the way down in the Auburn Valley, I have a friend who loves to hear the sounds from SIR, when the Drags come there! I have actually sat on their back deck and listened to the nitro motors from there.

Now don't blast me for not going, but I have my reasons!
