He has lots of wing dialed in. He doesn't want to wad one up on the first day!

So, in an hour he's only lapped 6 times? That's not too bad.

Also, note that Chesson is in the top half of the field. I'm guessing we will not see that again for a long time.

Hey, Steve! Lots of beer, good looking German women, but NO LEDERHOSEN! Watch out for Paulaner Salvator -- a dark beer from Munich with 8% alcohol. ;)

Nice to see that it still sucks to be Foyt and that Buddy Rice is still in love with the Turn 2 wall. The teams with the old ILR Panoz seem to be out of luck and Danicamania must be on the wane...

It still sucks to be Foyt when...

28 Larry Foyt (41) 216.261 D/H/F
29 Marty Roth (25) 211.855 D/H/F
30 Jaques Lazier (21) 210.521 P/H/F
31 Jon Herb (12) 204.104 P/H/F

... on the final day of practice only three cars are slower and two of them are Panoz chassis while the third is driven by Marty Roth!

Update:

25 Jaques Lazier (21) 217.990 P/H/F

Ouch! Jaques must be as special as his brother to make that Panoz go faster. ;)

Herb is out of the #12 car, replaced by Roger Yasukawa, who after a dozen laps turned laps 10 mph faster then Jon Herb.

Jon Herb after Yasukawa came into the pits after his run, "you mean to tell me that Turn 1 is not a second gear corner." j/k

But he's still aiming for the front row....not sure if that means he hopes to qualify in the front row, or if he thinks he can launch himself and hit the front row. :gomer:

I understand Arie Sr. was seen over at Meijer's dumping his quarter jar into the change machine so the team could purchase the parts to fix Jr.'s car in time for his next 180mph bobble. :gomer:

Realize what the grid is telling us....

There are 11 drivers in the race who are worse than Larry Foyt.

No wonder The Great Gomer made it rain all month. He wanted to make sure there were enough cars left to have a full field.

Does anyone remember the start of the 82 500? AJ was ranting on about how Kevin Cogan wasn't qualified to be in an IndyCar. Does anyone think Larry is as good a driver as Kevin?

Is it just me, or does it seem to others that the backmarkers start in row 3 this year?

I read this on Foyt's racing site.

In the race, it became obvious that things weren't going to get any better so I pulled Larry in and focused on Felipe. I knew we were in trouble but I thought we could work our way out of it. I was wrong. He made 11 pit stops and was fixing to make his 12th when he brushed the wall with ten laps to go.

Why pull in the the namesake and leave the hired hand out?

I'm sure that's what it means. They have to list a reason for retirement rather than say "to slow" they say "handling."

Back in the days of the Buick stock blocks they had a few cases of connecting rods coming out through the side of the engine block and severing a wiring harness, they listed the cause of retirement as "electrical"

I remember that. Back then, I had a customer (can't remember who, but they were either in Auburn or Ft. Wayne, I want to say Magnavox for some reason) that designed the ignition system for those Buicks. I was actually a Field Applications Engineer with a couple design-ins there, not a salesman. Anyway, he and I were talking during my next visit after the race, late '80's, and he said he about crapped when he heard that it was an electrical failure that took whoever it was out of the race. He had since learned that it was actually a grenade situation, and he could breathe easier.
