INDIANAPOLIS (April 4, 2003) – Officials from Champ Car announced today that Holland America Line has joined the open wheel racing sanctioning body as the “Preferred Cruise Line of Champ Car.”

Rated the highest premium cruise line in the world in the 2002 Travel & Leisure Magazine “World's Best Awards,” Holland America is a member of the exclusive World's Leading Cruise Lines alliance, which also includes Carnival Cruise Lines, Cunard Line, Seabourn Cruise Line, Costa Cruises and Windstar Cruises. Together, these member lines share a commitment to quality and value, offering cruise vacations that appeal to a wide range of lifestyles and budgets and sail to some of the world's most exciting destinations.

“We are extremely honored to welcome Holland America Line to Champ Car as an official sponsor for the 2003 Champ Car World Series season,” said Champ Car Vice President of Marketing Steve Fusek. “This new partnership with Holland America elevates both of our brands and further strengthens Champ Car's position as a sport property. With the strong mix of races in key North American and international markets in the Champ Car World Series, we were able to establish a program that provides Holland America with a unique sales, marketing and hospitality vehicle to grow their business.”

In addition to the marketing partnership, Holland will support a year-end contingency program, “The Holland America Line Cruise to Victory Award,” that will award the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford champion driver and team owner with complimentary seven day Holland America Caribbean cruises for two.

“On behalf of Holland America Line, we are proud to be associated with Champ Car,” said Senior Director for Incentive, Charter and International Sales, Paul Shortall, CTC. “With the series' unique international scope, we are very much attracted by the premium markets Champ Car reaches. These venues offer a solid platform for Holland to entertain customers, travel agents and major tour wholesalers. In addition, the Champ Car association provides us access to network with corporate decision makers.”

Holland America is cruising's premium leader, providing unsurpassed value, renowned service and quality, industry leading worldwide itineraries and responsible corporate stewardship. In 2003, Holland America's fleet of twelve, five-star, premium ships will offer 447 premium cruises on industry-leading itineraries to all seven continents and will sail from 15 North American home ports. By 2006 Holland America will increase its capacity by 34 percent– and its fleet to a total of 15 ships– with the introduction of three additional 85,000-ton, 1,848-passenger Vista Class ships, the largest ever built for Holland America Line. The line offers the only trip cancellation program in the industry that offers cash back for canceling for any reason prior to 24 hours before departure.

It isn't mentioned in the press release, but CART seems to be growing the number of races in "cruise markets." Miami, Tampa/St. Pete, Long Beach (L.A.), and Vancouver are all home ports to numerous cruise ships.
