Firefox locked up on me about a half hour ago. When I tried to reopen it, it said something about my profile already being in use, then created a new profile. Now all my bookmarks are gone, all my saved login information and passwords, etc. I can't seem to find any way to switch back to the original user and recover that stuff.

As long as the new profile didn't have the same name as the old one you should be able to switch back

You can also just hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill firefox.exe under the Processes tab. Do that, and the next time you fire up Mozilla you'll be back to your original profile.

Is there a way to backup bookmarks in firefox?

I had this happen once too, and it was VERY frustrating

You can also just hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill firefox.exe under the Processes tab. Do that, and the next time you fire up Mozilla you'll be back to your original profile.

Yeah, that is what I did the second time I came across that problem. Rare for Firefox to screw up.

As long as we're on the subject. How in heck do you reorder the bookmarks? I'm pretty new to Firefox (you guys persuaded me) and my book marks are in a jumble.

Just click on bookmarks and on the third line down there will be a line called "manage bookmarks". Click on that and rearrange away...
